Killian glanced up at her. Natalie knew he was displeased, so she stopped talking.

Jillian had been staying with her mother and grandmother during this time.

After learning the truth about her parentage, she actually felt a wave of relief and quickly accepted reality.

Silas wasn't her biological father, so she no longer had to be trapped in the obsessive wonder of why her own father didn't love her.

With Judith Jarrett and Lydia Lowell by her side, she felt much more at ease. Suddenly, many things became clear to her.

The late summer weather wasn't too hot, and Jillian had received a generous bonus for her outstanding performance at work. She took out all the savings she had built up over the years and bought a two-bedroom apartment for Judith.

The place was beautifully renovated, spacious, and located in an area with great amenities—more than enough for Judith and Lydia to live comfortably in their retirement.

After finishing the move, Jillian took Judith out shopping at the mall.

"Oh, the clothes here are too expensive. Let's not buy anything," Judith quickly tried to stop her.

"My income is stable now, and I don't have any other expenses. Let me get a few nice outfits for you and Grandma."

Jillian knew her mother had been frugal her entire life and couldn't bear to spend money on herself. She practically had to drag her around, picking out several outfits.

As they were walking around the first floor preparing to leave, Jillian spotted the gold and jewelry counters.

It suddenly occurred to her that Judith never wore a decent piece of jewelry around her neck or wrists.

Judith saw right through her intentions. "Don't buy anything, don't buy anything. I'm too old for this. Who am I going to show it off to?"

"Jewelry is for your own happiness, not for anyone else to look at." Jillian didn't take no for an answer, pulling her into the jewelry store.

Judith didn't have much of a preference for gold or silver; she simply stood quietly, looking at the display cases.

Jillian, however, eyed an entire set of gold jewelry—a necklace, bracelet, ring, and earrings. She knew her mother had always liked gold but could never bear to spend the money.

"Mom, look at this set. It's perfect for you," Jillian smiled, waving her over.
