Lydia smiled and chimed in, "Alright then, we'll wake up early tomorrow and prepare a huge feast with all of Connor's favorite dishes."

At eight o'clock the next morning, Killian personally walked Connor out the door. The father and son had just reached the garage when they ran head-on into Sylvia.

"Are you two heading out?" Sylvia asked softly.

"Sylvia, I'm going to my mom's house. I haven't seen Grandma Judith and Great-Nana Lydia in a long time," Connor replied politely.

Sylvia's gaze shifted to Killian. "You're dropping him off yourself?"

Killian gave a faint nod.

A fleeting look of disappointment crossed Sylvia's eyes.

Over the past five years, she had genuinely believed that with Jillian out of the picture, staying by Killian's side would slowly allow her to walk into his heart. She assumed they would end up together sooner or later, even secretly planning their marriage in her head.

Yet, five years had passed, and their relationship remained completely stagnant.

Aside from his relentless drive for his empire, all of Killian's patience and tenderness were entirely reserved for Connor.

She used to think Killian was just a cold man who didn't know how to dote on a child. But after Jillian left, he had pushed his fatherly responsibilities to the absolute limit, putting his son above everything else.

And precisely because of that, her position in his heart as his supposed girlfriend ranked dead last behind the boy.

"Since you're heading over, why don't you stay there for lunch? Connor would definitely be much happier with both his parents there," Sylvia suggested, forcing a gentle tone.

Killian's eyes darkened slightly. He cast a sweeping glance at her and said to Connor, "Get in the car and wait for me."

"Okay." Connor obediently climbed into the vehicle.

With only the two of them left in the garage, the bitter sting in Sylvia's chest became impossible to suppress.

Killian cut straight to the chase. "Does this bother you?"

"No, it doesn't." Sylvia lowered her head, dropping her gaze in a display of being wronged and heartbroken.

Killian's tone was flat, though it carried a faint trace of imperceptible self-mockery. "I'm only dropping him off. I won't be staying for lunch. Even if I wanted to stay, Jillian probably wouldn't want me there."

Sylvia's heart jolted.
