Killian stood frozen in place, his gaze tightly locked onto the departing figures of the mother and son, unable to look away for a long time.

He subconsciously took a step forward.

Seeing this, the security guard immediately stepped up to block his path. "I apologize, sir. Non-residents are not permitted entry without direct authorization from a homeowner."

A trace of an incredibly cold, faint smirk hooked the corner of Killian's mouth.

In his thirty-plus years of life, this was the very first time he had ever been barred at a door. The very first time he had tasted outright rejection.

He concealed the emotion in his eyes, turned around expressionlessly, and got back into his car to drive away.

On the other side of the gates, Connor followed Jillian into the residential area, looking around curiously.

While the houses here weren't quite as extravagantly opulent as his lavish estate, they were surrounded by lush greenery and possessed a clean, refined elegance that exuded warmth and tranquility.

"Mom, does Grandma live here now?" Connor couldn't help but ask.

"Yes, our whole family lives here."

Knowing his mom no longer lived in that cramped, rundown apartment from before, Connor's heart instantly felt lighter. He spoke up innocently:

"I knew Dad was super generous. Dad must have given you the money to buy this new house, right?"

Jillian's footsteps faltered slightly. She looked down at her son, her gaze utterly serious. "Connor, Mom didn't take a single cent from your dad. I bought this house with the money I saved up from working hard these past few years."

The smile stiffened on Connor's face. He let out a muffled "oh" and stopped talking.

They quickly arrived at the front door of Building 8, and Jillian pushed it open to lead him inside.

"I'm here!" Connor announced loudly the moment he stepped in.

The scene he had anticipated—Grandma and Great-Nana rushing out to greet him—didn't happen. Instead, a crisp, bright voice rang out first.
