The smile instantly froze on Stella's face.

At that exact moment, Jillian pushed the door open and walked in, her expression darkening severely.

"Connor, you are not allowed to say things like that. She was just a late talker. Mocking someone like that is incredibly disrespectful."

"It's okay, Mom. He didn't mean it," Stella reacted quickly, actually being the first to step in and try to comfort Jillian.

But Connor's temper flared up immediately. He stiffened his neck and fired back, "I did mean it! She was a little mute before, wasn't she? What did I say that was wrong? What kind of normal kid still can't talk at five years old?"

"Connor Quincy!" Jillian's voice spiked sharply as she locked her stern gaze onto him.

But the boy was feeling thoroughly rebellious. He raised his voice, shouting at Stella over and over again, "The little mute! The little mute!"

Seeing the situation escalate, Judith quickly stepped in, grabbed Connor, and pulled him into her own room.

Connor's eyes were bloodshot. He hung his head, refusing to say a word, his mind an absolute chaotic mess.

He had genuinely been trying to accept her. But the moment he realized she was the same little girl who couldn't speak all those years ago, the buried resentment in his heart came surging out out of nowhere.

He still remembered how vehemently he had rejected this sister back then, even demanding his mom send her away.

Later on, when he heard that his mom actually had sent her back to the orphanage, he had secretly rejoiced, absolutely certain that he was the one his mom loved the most.

He never could have imagined that at some point, his mom had brought her back and raised her all the way up to now.

"Connor, you aren't a little kid anymore. You can't say hurtful things like that. It breaks her heart," Judith tried to reason with him.

"I wanted to say it! She is a little mute! I hate her from the bottom of my heart. She stole my mom's love from me!" Connor pouted, full of sheer spite.

Judith looked absolutely stunned. The stubborn, sharp-tongued grandson standing in front of her was worlds apart from the sweet, obedient boy she remembered.
