She clutched her phone, falling into a heavy silence.

Stella, highly perceptive, instantly saw she was worrying about Connor.

"Mom, are you worried no one is taking care of Connor?"

Jillian offered a faint smile but didn't say anything.

Deep down, she knew the entire Quincy household would take immaculate care of him. Even if she didn't text, he would be perfectly fine.

But he was still her son. Even though she and Killian were divorced, she still needed to fulfill her duty as a mother.

"Mom, Connor is just throwing a tantrum. Why don't you text Killian and ask him to keep an extra eye on him? If Connor knows you're worried about him, he'll definitely feel a lot better."

"Okay. Finish getting dressed, let's head downstairs and get ready for school."

Stella quickly zipped up her coat, grabbed her backpack, and headed down first. Jillian stood there for a moment, realizing her daughter made total sense.

No matter how much she resented Killian, they still shared a child, and she couldn't just abandon her responsibilities.

She quickly typed out a message to Killian, reminding him of the drastic temperature drop and asking him to make sure Connor layered up morning and night so he wouldn't catch a cold.

Killian was currently away on a business trip overseas, where it was the middle of the night. His phone screen lit up in the dark, then quickly faded back to black.

First thing in the morning, Connor woke up and stared out at the terrible weather. Mrs. Zeller quickly ordered the staff to prep his breakfast, backpack, and raincoat, urging him, "The rain is so heavy today. Why don't you just take a sick day and rest at home?"

Connor shook his head stubbornly. "I'm not skipping. Every time the weather is bad, you tell me to skip school. I already have the most absences in my class. I hate it."
