Killian watched in silence, feeling a profound sense of unease.
In the past, Sienna had occasionally shown affection toward Connor, but that tenderness had always felt performative—a shallow display strictly meant to uphold her image as a grandmother.
But today, Sienna's fawning felt unnervingly deliberate.
Eleanor didn't seem to notice the strange dynamic. She sipped her tea and asked casually, "Has Jillian been causing any more trouble since the birthday banquet?"
Sienna's heart instantly leaped into her throat. She held her breath, listening closely.
"No, I haven't had much contact with her lately," Killian replied.
"Good. At least she knows her place," Eleanor nodded, a hint of impatience in her tone. "But you can't keep dragging this out with her. It's best if you finalize the divorce and make a clean break."
Before Killian could even open his mouth, Sienna quickly forced a laugh and cut in, "Eleanor, Connor is right here. Let's not talk about this in front of the child."
Eleanor stared at her, dumbfounded.
Whenever they used to badmouth Jillian, Sienna had never once cared if Connor was in the room. Now she was suddenly lecturing her about it?
"Connor isn't a baby anymore; he needs to understand how the world works," Eleanor scoffed dismissively. "It's better he faces reality now than we keep him in the dark."
Sienna looked incredibly awkward but argued softly, "A child needs to grow up in a complete family to develop a healthy mindset. Look at kids from broken homes—they often end up with emotional issues and struggle later in life."
Eleanor shot her a deeply unamused glare and dropped the subject.
When it was time to leave after lunch, Eleanor excused herself first. Sienna immediately stepped up to walk Killian out.
Completely unfazed by Killian's icy demeanor, she moved closer and said earnestly, "Think about what I said earlier. Connor will be a teenager before you know it. Having a mother by his side will keep him on the right track."
