Halfway through dinner, Eleanor brought up business. "Have you truly made up your mind to sell Horizon Tech?"
Killian nodded.
Eleanor sighed deeply. When the Quincy family first invested in Horizon, their blueprint had been incredibly ambitious. No one expected it to end in such a dismal sell-off.
Though she didn't interfere in corporate matters, it still felt like a massive waste.
"Business has its ups and downs. Don't let it weigh on you. Your grandfather had his fair share of failed investments back in the day."
Killian remained utterly unbothered. The Horizon project was a failure, but his other ventures were highly profitable. A single blunder wasn't going to shatter his foundation, nor would it make the board doubt his prowess.
"Come to think of it, if you hadn't handed that project over to Sylvia, perhaps it wouldn't have ended this way," Sienna interjected casually.
Killian frowned slightly, genuinely surprised.
Sienna had always favored Sylvia and defended her at every turn. Why was she suddenly throwing her under the bus?
"A project's success or failure depends on countless factors. You can't pin it all on one person," Killian replied flatly, his tone laced with defense.
Both Eleanor and Sienna could hear it—Killian was still protective of Sylvia.
Suppressing her complicated feelings, Sienna probed gently, "After Horizon is sold, will Sylvia continue working at the company?"
"I've placed her on a paid leave of absence so she can decompress," Killian said calmly. "When she returns, I will reevaluate where we stand with each other."
Eleanor immediately seized the opening. "That's the right call. The worst thing couples or spouses can do is blur the lines between business and pleasure. Even if you two can compartmentalize, outsiders will inevitably gossip. Working separately is much cleaner."
After dinner, Killian and Connor stayed the night at the estate.
Taking advantage of a quiet moment, Sienna pulled Connor aside and whispered, "Is your mom really one hundred percent okay? No discomfort at all?"
"She's perfectly fine, she told me herself," Connor replied, tilting his head in confusion. "Why are you asking about Mom so much? Are you worried about her?"
