As their lips crashed together, the heavy scent of liquor flooded her senses.

Jillian instantly realized he was drunk.

Or maybe, with Sylvia out of the country, he was just lonely and looking for an outlet.

Pure rage ignited in her chest. She shoved against his chest with every ounce of strength she had.

But the harder she fought, the tighter he held her. His arm banded around her waist, his palm pressing into her spine as if trying to brand her into his very skin.

The kiss was overwhelmingly dominant, a desperate release of pent-up starvation, accompanied by ragged, heavy breaths.

She felt a sharp sting on her lip, and the metallic tang of blood bloomed on her tongue.

Just as she was on the verge of suffocating, she mustered a final burst of adrenaline and forcefully shoved him away.

In the dead silence of the corridor, a sharp smack echoed loudly as her hand connected with his cheek.

Jillian's chest heaved, her entire body shaking uncontrollably.

"Jillian!"

A warm, familiar voice called out from the corner. It was Daniel.

Snapping back to reality, she threw off Killian completely and practically bolted over to Daniel.

Under the bright corridor lights, Daniel instantly registered her rumpled clothing, the swollen, split lip, and the smeared lipstick. A flash of murderous fury crossed his eyes.

But he didn't interrogate her, knowing she was humiliated enough. Instead, he hovered a protective hand over her back and spoke softly, "You've been out here a while. You should touch up your makeup. I'll walk you."

Warmth flooded Jillian's chest, and she nodded frantically.

They retreated to an isolated corner. She pulled out a compact mirror, staring at her messy reflection. With a tissue, she wiped away the smeared lipstick, reapplied it, and smoothed her dress. Only after several long moments did she finally regain her composure.

"Thank you," she murmured gratefully.
