Eleanor threw her hands up in defeat. "That is Killian's business. No one can control him. Besides, the two of them are literally on the verge of a vicious divorce battle. Obviously, he wasn't going to bring her."

Sean was shocked. "How did it escalate to that?"

He had only heard rumors that Killian despised his wife and that she had trapped him into the marriage using underhanded tactics.

But it had been years, and their son was already growing up.

He assumed they had long since settled into their dynamic. He never expected them to be at each other's throats in court.

"That woman is deeply ungrateful and has zero self-awareness. She used to be obedient enough, but lately, she's completely lost her mind. She pushes her luck at every turn."

Eleanor rattled off a few more complaints. Listening to her, Sean's opinion of Connor's mother tanked instantly.

Yet, the horrifying thought of Sylvia becoming his grandson's stepmother left a deep knot of anxiety in his chest.

By the end of the day, Connor had warmed up to his grandfather a bit. The icy awkwardness from the morning had mostly thawed.

Sean was elated. He immediately started making plans to take the boy to an amusement park the next day, followed by an animated movie.

Connor was absolutely thrilled with the itinerary. Usually, his weekends were packed with endless tutoring sessions and piles of homework.

Suddenly having a grandfather who wanted to spoil him rotten was a dream come true.

Sean beamed at the boy's excitement. He then looked cautiously at Killian, asking tentatively, "Connor seems really excited. What do you think? Let's go with my plan for tomorrow?"

Killian lounged on the sofa, his long legs crossed, his fingers laced together in stony silence.

Eleanor, desperate to mend the bridge between father and son, chimed in quickly. "I think it's a wonderful idea. Let Killian tag along too. Connor is a handful; you won't be able to keep up with him alone."

Even with Eleanor pushing for it, Killian simply stated, "I have other plans tomorrow."

Sean looked painfully awkward and utterly defeated.

Right then, Killian's phone rang. He glanced at the screen and, instead of stepping away, answered it right there. "Hello."

Sylvia's overly bubbly voice floated through the speaker, exclaiming that a new children's animated movie had just hit theaters and she wanted to treat Connor to see it tomorrow.
