Jillian smiled as she pressed the down button for the elevator.
The doors slowly parted, revealing an empty car, and she stepped inside.
Just as the doors were about to close, someone pressed the call button from the outside, and the metallic panels slowly slid open again.
Jillian instinctively looked up, and a familiar face filled her vision.
She froze for a fraction of a second before giving the man a polite, indifferent nod.
It was Killian.
He offered no reaction, stepping straight into the elevator and turning around to stand with his back to her.
The elevator descended smoothly, the atmosphere inside the sleek, pristine car heavy and suffocatingly cold.
Jillian still held the rose Bash had just given her, and the polished mirrored walls of the elevator clearly reflected their silent, deeply alienated figures.
"I'm picking up Connor this weekend," Killian spoke first, his voice completely devoid of warmth.
Jillian paused, then immediately replied, "Alright."
"Connor is at a sensitive and introverted age right now," Killian said, a hint of a lecture in his tone. "You need to be more proactive with him instead of waiting for him to speak up. He keeps to himself and bottles everything up."
Jillian took a soft breath.
Killian always assumed she didn't care about their son, but she knew perfectly well that she kept in constant contact with Connor and had never neglected him.
Stella and Connor were around the same age, but Stella was naturally outgoing and optimistic, whereas Connor had inherited the Quincy family demeanor—quiet, reserved, and reluctant to express himself.
Whenever she had free time, Jillian would devour parenting books, studying child psychology to learn how to better connect with introverted children.
But since she didn't live with her son full-time, there was no way for her to defend herself against Killian's misconceptions and accusations.
"I understand. I'll pay more attention to it," Jillian replied earnestly.
