Jillian Jarrett's vision spun as a sudden wave of dizziness hit her. A suffocating feeling of weightlessness followed, and by the time she regained her senses, Killian Quincy had already swept her into his arms.

"Let me go. What are you doing?"

"Taking you home to rest."

"No need. My family will be here soon," Jillian said, struggling against his grip.

Just then, the door was pushed open, and an unfamiliar young man walked in. "Mr. Quincy."

"Take care of the hospital arrangements."

The young man nodded. "Right away, sir."

"Who is he?" Jillian asked, taken aback.

"Caleb. My new assistant."

Jillian was puzzled. Wasn't his personal assistant always Nate? Why the sudden change?

"Nate handles my business affairs. Caleb manages my personal life," Killian explained.

Realizing this was none of her business, Jillian retorted, "Put me down. Daniel and my mom will be here any minute. I don't need you looking after me."

"Your mother is getting older, and you want her running around exhausting herself for you? And Daniel Langley—what legal relationship does he have with you?"

Jillian gritted her teeth, glaring at him.

"Rest assured, whether it's checking into a hospital or signing off on your burial, I am still the only one legally authorized to sign for you."

Killian carried her into the elevator and carefully deposited her into the passenger seat of his car.

Jillian was too exhausted to fight back.

The worst he could do was take her back to The Yale Residences. That was fine; at least she would get to see her son.

Just as the engine purred to life, she saw the headlights sweep across another luxury sedan. She recognized the license plate—it belonged to Daniel.

Through the glass, she opened her mouth to call out, but Killian rolled up the window and locked the doors.

Daniel didn't recognize Killian's vehicle and drove right past them.
