"I'm not answering that."
After Jillian spoke, she turned to head back to her room.
But Killian wasn't about to let it go. He reached out and grabbed her wrist, his grip iron-clad, refusing to let her break free.
His voice was frigid, every word dripping with pressure. "So you did... sleep with him."
Unable to wrench herself free, Jillian stopped fighting. She looked back at him coldly, a mocking smirk playing on her lips. "What? Is the great Killian Quincy feeling a little insecure?"
A dangerous storm brewed in Killian's dark eyes, wild and untamed like a tempest over the ocean.
Jillian's expression remained detached, staring him down without an ounce of fear.
The tension was stretched to its absolute breaking point.
Just then, Mrs. Lewis rushed out of the servant's quarters, throwing a coat over her shoulders. She had likely heard the shouting in the living room and assumed something terrible had happened.
She looked up and caught sight of the glaring red handprint on Killian's cheek. She froze instantly, awkward and panicked, before spinning right back around.
"Sorry, sir, ma'am. I didn't see anything."
The door clicked shut.
Watching the scene unfold, Jillian suddenly couldn't hold it in anymore. She burst out laughing.
It was a laugh of genuine, deeply felt amusement.
For the first time, Killian was tasting the same public humiliation and frustration she had endured countless times in the past—even if it was just a fraction of it.
Killian abruptly let go of her hand.
He shoved his hands into his pockets, his posture lazy yet imposing as he stared down at her. "Since you don't care, then don't even dream of getting rid of me in this lifetime. I will absolutely never agree to a divorce."
Jillian looked up and countered, "Things have gotten this bad, and you still refuse to let me go?"
"Exactly," Killian stated with unwavering certainty, leaving no room for negotiation.
"So you're just going to drag me down, trapping us both in this miserable swamp of a marriage until we destroy each other?"
"Yes."
