The arena music swelled as the next contestant took the ice.
Sean Quincy kept his eyes fixed on the rink, but his voice dropped to a low murmur. "You didn't expect to see me here, did you?"
"Spit it out," Jillian demanded coldly, her guard completely up.
"You don't need to treat me like an enemy," Sean said with a faint smile. "I just heard you had a daughter who was a professional figure skater, so I came to watch. The little girl is incredibly talented and beautiful. If you nurture her, she'll go far."
"That has nothing to do with you," Jillian replied, her tone icy and distant.
"True enough," Sean said leisurely. "But I have to wonder, haven't you noticed it yourself? That child's features and aura... she looks remarkably like you."
"There are plenty of people in the world who look alike. Stella and I are together every single day; it's perfectly normal for our expressions to mirror each other."
"You can comfort yourself with that thought," Sean said, his tone layered with implication. "But you can't control what outsiders might speculate."
"I don't have the time to care about what others think." Jillian lost the last of her patience. "Mr. Quincy, just say what you came to say. Stop beating around the bush."
"Fine, I'll be direct."
Sean dropped his smile, his expression turning serious. "I've looked into it. My son has been extremely cold to you all these years. Objectively speaking, in this marriage, the major fault doesn't lie with you. I'm not taking his side, and I don't blame you. Right now, I only have one demand for you: stand firm on your decision to divorce, and don't ever look back."
Jillian scoffed, turning to look at him. "What makes you think I'm not standing firm?"
"You ignore him on a good day, but the second you run into trouble, you run back to beg for his help and move right back in. You call that being resolute? Jillian, that's just playing hard to get!"
