The Ex-Wife He Can’t Have novel Chapter 448

"Targeting me?" Jillian's heart sank.

"Yes," the executive replied earnestly. "We're a tiny company with average prospects. We shouldn't even be on the radar of a massive corporation. I actually preferred you taking over; I genuinely wanted to see the company grow."

"Can you tell me which company acquired it?"

"Quincy Group."

Hanging up the phone, Jillian leaned back in her chair, her suspicions entirely confirmed.

It was Killian.

He couldn't care less about the actual value of that startup. He only did this to assert dominance over her.

To force her to bow her head. To force her to go to him.

After a long internal debate, Jillian finally dialed Killian's number.

The call connected, and Killian's voice came through, cold and distant. "What is it?"

"You should know exactly why I'm calling."

"I don't. Speak plainly," Killian said, his tone dripping with deliberate aloofness.

"You're the one behind the Kyber Systems acquisition, aren't you?"

"Yes."

"Why would you do that?"

A cold, mocking scoff echoed through the receiver. "Quincy Group executes corporate acquisitions every year. As long as it fits into our development plans, we bring it under our umbrella. Aren't you thinking a bit too highly of yourself, assuming I did it specifically to target you?"

Jillian's voice was perfectly calm, every word razor-sharp. "Before I brought this company up to you, had you ever even heard the name Kyber Systems?"

The line went dead silent.

After a long pause, Killian slowly admitted, "No."

"So the great Killian Quincy wasted manpower and capital to buy out a worthless, insignificant startup, just for entertainment?" Jillian reigned in her anger. "What exactly do you want?"

"You want the answer?" Killian's tone turned authoritative. "The final contracts haven't been signed and stamped yet. If you want the company back, come see me in person to negotiate."
