"Silas, this is Killian's son, Connor."
Killian walked in right on cue.
Silas immediately stood up to greet him.
"The young man is bright-eyed and full of character. Truly fitting for Mr. Quincy's son."
Killian gave a slight nod. "You flatter him."
Silas had naturally heard the rumors surrounding Killian's marriage—how he had been trapped by a scheming woman and forced into marriage to have this child.
To avoid touching a nerve, he quickly added, "He looks exactly like you. A complete carbon copy."
The implication was clear: the boy looked nothing like his mother.
Killian nodded. "He does favor me."
Connor stood to the side, his face flushed with excitement.
Sylvia quickly chimed in, "Silas, Connor is a massive fan of yours."
"Is that so?"
"It's true. He even attended your exhibition."
Sylvia helped Connor take out his paintings. Silas showered him with praise, complimenting his natural talent.
As the meal progressed, the conversation naturally drifted to taking Connor on as a student.
Silas agreed without hesitation. Sylvia prompted Connor to thank Professor Xavier, making sure to mention that Silas currently only mentored master's students and absolutely never taught children.
Connor could barely contain his excitement.
A painter of Silas's status and prestige wouldn't lower himself to tutor a rich kid just for money; it would damage his reputation.
The only reason he agreed to take Connor as a student was strictly as a favor to Sylvia.
He loved Sylvia even more now.
He truly believed she cared for him from the bottom of her heart.
The dinner didn't last long. Silas mentioned he had work to get back to, so Sylvia and Killian walked him out.
Downstairs, Jillian and Stella were still eating.
Suddenly, someone stopped by their table.
Jillian looked up. "Daniel?"
Daniel Langley smiled. "I was having a get-together with some friends and happened to spot you. I thought my eyes were playing tricks on me."
Jillian quickly moved her empty cups aside to make room.
His mother had cleaned the girl up perfectly, and she was sitting quietly and obediently right next to Jillian.
Jillian reached out and placed a bowl of soup directly in front of the girl.
She was clearly doting on her.
A bizarre, twisted jealousy flared in Connor's chest.
His small face darkened, and he marched over quickly. He hadn't seen Jillian in days, and suddenly being faced with her... a sudden lump formed in his throat.
"Mom, who is she?"
Jillian, entirely missing his hostility, stood up and gently took Stella's hand. "This is the little sister I told you about. Her name is Stella."
"Stella, this is your older brother, Connor."
Connor's expression turned thunderous, sheer displeasure radiating from his face.
"She's my mom, not yours!" Connor suddenly screamed at Stella.
Jillian was stunned. She never expected Connor to lash out like that.
He had never shown this level of vicious possessiveness before.
Normally, his cold demeanor was a perfect mirror of Killian's.
