What was that supposed to mean? They were going to sit inside and feast while she stood guard outside, only to act as Connor's chauffeur once they were done?
How was she any different from the household staff?
"Around what time will you finish?" Jillian asked.
"Don't ask me that. Who knows? There's a lot of us. We'll definitely have some wine and chat for a while."
Leaving the exhibition hall, Jillian didn't walk with them to the restaurant. Instead, she drove her modest commuter car, trailing far behind their luxury convoy.
She waited until everyone had entered the restaurant before letting the valet direct her to a parking spot. Sienna had ordered her to keep her distance, so Jillian hung back until the entire party was securely inside their private dining room before approaching the door.
A short time later, the waitstaff exited after taking their orders.
When the staff returned carrying dishes, the opening door allowed bursts of laughter and cheerful chatter to spill into the hallway. It was the usual obnoxious corporate flattery.
Madeline praised Killian's massive business success, Sienna complimented Silas on his brilliant exhibition, and then praised Gibson for becoming a top-tier international doctor at such a young age, casually asking when he would take over his family's empire.
Occasionally, Connor's childish voice would weave through the conversation.
"Grandma, I want some juice."
"Grandma, I want to eat that one."
The servers bustled in and out, carrying plates and pouring wine, without casting a single glance in Jillian's direction.
At high-society gatherings like this, having assistants or servants waiting in the halls was entirely commonplace.
Jillian leaned flat against the wall, staring up at the ceiling.
She despised her own cowardice, yet she lacked the courage to simply walk away.
No matter what, Connor was her son. Since she brought him here, she had a duty to take him back. She couldn't just abandon him at a dinner party.
"By the way, how are you all getting back after this?" Silas asked.
Sienna laughed. "Natalie and I will take a car back to the old estate. As for Connor, he's heading back to The Yale Residences, of course."
He closed the door behind him.
"If you're tired, you should go home first. I'll drop Connor off later."
"No need," Jillian said coldly.
From the looks of it, being married to Killian hadn't brought Jillian an ounce of happiness.
On the contrary, the Quincy family treated her like absolute dirt.
"At the very least, go down to the first floor and get something to eat. Put it on my tab," Gibson tried again.
Keeping her head down, Jillian offered a chilling smirk.
Gibson might be a decent person, but half of her current torment was directly caused by his sister.
