"Alright."

Watching Daniel walk away, Jillian stepped closer to the intersection so he could easily pull up.

Suddenly, she noticed a figure standing under a nearby streetlamp. As she squinted, she realized it was Sylvia.

It had been forty minutes since their awkward encounter in the lobby. Jillian had assumed Sylvia was long gone.

She cast Sylvia a strange look, unsure if the woman had been waiting there this whole time or if she had made other plans and just happened to still be in the area.

Jillian shuffled slightly to the side, doing her best to avoid any direct confrontation.

"Jillian, what is your relationship with Daniel Langley?" Sylvia demanded abruptly.

Jillian turned back, giving her a baffled look.

She had no idea what point Sylvia was trying to make.

She and Daniel had always just been university friends and colleagues.

In fact, when Sylvia first wanted to get close to Daniel, Jillian was the one who pulled the strings.

At the time, Jillian had found it odd. If Sylvia had known Killian since childhood, how could she not have Daniel's contact information?

Sylvia had claimed that Daniel was always aloof and arrogant within their elite social circle, rarely interacting with anyone. He supposedly avoided the grand gatherings hosted by the top families.

Because of that, she said she barely knew him. So, Jillian made the introduction.

Daniel's reaction had been entirely indifferent, and he hadn't shared any specific details with Jillian afterward.

When Sylvia begged for the introduction, she claimed she was stuck on an academic project and desperately needed Daniel's expertise.

Once Jillian made the connection, she washed her hands of the matter and never asked about it again.

Now, however, she had zero intention of humoring Sylvia.

"That's none of your business."

Surprisingly, the usually arrogant and volatile Sylvia didn't explode. Instead, she stared at Jillian with an expression that was eerily calm, cold, and almost fragile.

The pale yellow glow of the streetlamp washed over her, making her look profoundly isolated and lonely.

Having seen so much of Sylvia's aggressive vanity, witnessing this sudden, shattered demeanor caught Jillian completely off guard.

Daniel pulled the car around. Spotting Jillian and Sylvia standing together from a distance, he didn't pull up directly beside them. Instead, he parked on the opposite side of the street.

"I don't rely on them to put food on my table. I don't owe them a play-by-play of my life."

Daniel frowned slightly. "That older cousin of yours isn't exactly a forgiving guy."

The young man offered a faint, razor-sharp smile. "Neither am I."

Right on cue, Jillian pushed the door open.

"Daniel," she greeted.

Daniel nodded. "Let me introduce you. This is Jillian, a friend from university."

"And this is Leon, a friend of mine. He's been overseas for years and just flew back a few days ago."

Jillian blinked, instantly remembering the 'Leon' Daniel had mentioned previously.

It was common for people with overseas backgrounds to use an English name. Langley Tech was a massive multinational corporation, and most employees here used English names in the office anyway.

She gave a polite nod and extended her hand. "Nice to meet you. I'm Jillian."

Leon shook her hand graciously. "I've heard a lot about you."
