**Dreams Rise Again by Braxton**
**Chapter 108**
In the blink of an eye, the nearest police officer lunged forward, seizing the man by the back of his collar. With a grunt of effort, he yanked him out of the ground as if he were uprooting a particularly stubborn weed from a garden. The force with which he pulled the suspect out spoke volumes about the urgency of the situation.
The couple who owned the house was swiftly apprehended and led back to the demolition site, their expressions a mix of defiance and dread.
As the second team returned with the male suspect in tow, a sight to behold emerged. Tabby Cat, the ginger feline with an air of triumph, perched regally on the shoulder of a burly officer. His tail flicked back and forth with a smug satisfaction, as if he were the king surveying his kingdom after a victorious battle.
Meanwhile, inside the police car, Nina took full advantage of the brief respite. She eagerly dug into the claypot rice that Simon had thoughtfully brought for her. Each bite was savored, as she knew all too well that once the bodies were uncovered, her appetite would likely vanish in the face of grim reality.
The couple they had apprehended radiated danger. The woman’s narrow, cat-like eyes glinted with a ferocity that sent chills down one’s spine, while the man’s thick, brutish features screamed of trouble. It was evident to anyone who glanced their way that innocence was not a trait either of them possessed.
Even with handcuffs clamped around their wrists, they held their necks rigid and their heads high, glaring defiantly at the officers as if to say they would not yield easily.
Simon’s voice cut through the tension like a knife. “Where did you bury the bodies?” His tone was cold, demanding an answer.
The couple’s response was immediate and defensive. “Bodies? We have no idea what you’re talking about!” Their voices dripped with feigned innocence.
“So you cops just make stuff up and pin it on whoever you want?” the man retorted, his bravado faltering slightly.
At that moment, Pearlie, the small but perceptive cat nestled in Nina’s arms, raised a tiny paw. “I know. I know where they are,” he declared with surprising confidence.
He leapt down and scampered over to the police dog that walked alongside Simon, giving the large canine a gentle pat on the leg. “Hey bro, give me a lift!” he chirped, his enthusiasm infectious.
The police dog, seemingly understanding the urgency of the situation, crouched down, allowing Pearlie to hop onto his back with practiced ease. With two cheerful barks, he signaled his readiness to assist.
After Nina finished her meal, she and Simon ventured into the eerie house, bringing their two furry companions—one large, one small—inside with them.
Pearlie, perched bravely on the sturdy back of the police dog, assumed the role of a pint-sized commander. He puffed out his chest and pointed his tiny paw directly at the east wall. “Yip. They’re here,” he announced with authority.
Then, with a quick swivel, he pointed at the wall that separated the kitchen from the living room. “And there too. The scent is super strong,” he added, his nose twitching with excitement.
The police dog lowered his head, sniffing the indicated areas with great care. He nodded, impressed. “Woof. This little guy’s got some real talent—he’s just as good as me, the pro.”
Nina wasted no time relaying the findings of her two furry companions to Simon. Dogs were experts at tracking scents in open spaces, but Pearlie, with his knack for darting into tight hideouts, had a nose uniquely suited for identifying odors in the most confined and sealed-off places.
Together, these two furballs formed an unbeatable duo—the perfect partners in unraveling the mysteries of crime.
Simon waved briskly, and the tech officers sprang into action. One officer meticulously ran a ground scanner along the wall, watching as the lines on the screen jittered and danced with each movement.
Another officer wielded a thermal imager, sweeping it across the wall, where a vibrant patchwork of colors bloomed and shifted before their eyes.
“Mr. Reed!” one of the tech officers suddenly exclaimed, excitement evident in his voice. “At one o’clock position—about five feet into the wall, there’s a clear hollow. The dimensions match… human bodies.” Almost immediately, three bodies were confirmed.
Simon’s eyes sharpened, a cold determination settling over him. He grabbed his radio, his voice crisp and authoritative. “Tech team, forensic squad, get ready—move. Target confirmed. Prepare to breach at the marked spots.”
