Chapter 164
Chapter 164
Jevon asked anxiously, “Could you help ask about his wishes?”
Nina nodded, squatted down, and softly passed on Jevon’s question.
The male crane listened, then, without hesitation, leaned his head toward his frail wife.
He said, “Wherever my wife is, that’s where I’ll be.”

He then turned to Nina, eyes full of hope. He asked, “Ms. Summer, can your zoo take us in? We want to live there.”
The female crane managed to raise her head and echoed in a soft voice, “Yeah, we only trust you.”
Nina was a bit surprised. She asked, “Really? You want to stay at my zoo?”
The male crane said, “Don’t worry, we’ll earn our own keep.”
Spreading his wings a little, he said seriously, “I know how to do the crane dance! I can perform it for all your visitors!”
Life was never easy, but he was willing to perform for love-even if it meant showing off his crane dance!
Nina burst out laughing at his earnestness, quickly waving it off. She said, “It’s not about the money!
“My zoo is pretty small, nowhere near as fancy as the city zoo. I’m just worried I might not be able to give you the care you deserve.”
Jevon saw how seriously Nina cared for the cranes and chuckled, then suggested, “Here’s an idea: I can help put in a request to move these two red-crowned cranes to Forest Isle Zoo so they can stay with you long-term.
“The state will provide food and medical subsidies for nationally protected animals.”
Nina’s eyes sparkled instantly, and it felt like mini fireworks were going off in her chest.
She thought, ‘Oh wow! My zoo’s actually getting a pair of dreamy, fairy-like red-crowned cranes!”
She had to fight the urge to jump for joy, but her grin was already stretched wide. She said, “This is incredible! I’ll hurry back and get the perfect, coziest home ready for them!”
There was a huge lake at the zoo, and guess what? Red-crowned cranes didn’t need beds-they just chilled standing on one leg like total pros.
Just had to set up some medical gear for the lady crane, and she was all set.
That medical equipment Loomis left behind ages ago was finally getting the spotlight!
Nina practically skipped back to Forest Isle Zoo. Even before she stepped inside, she could hear all the lively sounds coming from within-the place was already bustling.
Just five days left until the zoo’s open day, and everyone was scrambling to get things ready.
Workers were busy painting the railings and installing new signs; the whole place buzzed with energy.
The Squirrel Bros were hanging out nearby, heads cocked to the side as they watched the workers busy with their tools, totally fascinated by all the banging and clanging,
The foreman actually gave Chubby a mini hammer, and Chubby was absolutely thrilled! He even rolled his prized pinecone over to the foreman’s feet as a “thank you” present.

While taking a water break, the foreman couldn’t help chuckling at Chubby’s cute move. He said, “Ms. Summer, I swear, your zoo animals are just way too clever!
“They even know how to show gratitude!”
Nina chuckled and gave Chubby an affectionate pat on the head. She replied, “Everyone here’s a sweetheart!”
Meanwhile, Tabby King was sitting up high with his paws tucked in, wearing a dead-serious expression-like a chief supervisor keeping a watchful eye on everyone below.
But when it came to busyness, nobody could top Shadow.
Quentin spent his days at the company-he was such an energetic workaholic that he never even needed a nap, so Shadow stayed at the zoo while his owner was away.
At that moment, Shadow was zipping around the place, cheerfully helping the workers by fetching tools, carrying water bottles, and generally being as smart and hard-working as any member of Paw Patrol.
Nina said, “Shadow, let’s get you treated!”
Shadow replied, ‘I’m coming.”
Shadow came running over, tail wagging like crazy.
Nina brought Shadow into the medical room for his usual check-up, then kicked off a chill hypnosis therapy session to help him unwind.
She gently put on his custom noise-canceling headphones, turned on some mellow tunes, and coaxed him gently to relax.
By the time Nina removed Shadow’s headphones, dusk had already settled outside, the sky dimming toward evening.
The zoo was peaceful again after the daytime rush-only the occasional chirp of insects echoed through the quiet.
Shadow pressed in close behind Nina, his tail wagging with happiness.
Nina wandered around the zoo, but something just felt off.
Then it hit her.
From earlier until now, Pearlie-the ferret who was always glued to her side, practically hanging off her-hadn’t shown up at
all!
Nina quickly started asking around, “Has anyone seen Pearlie?”
Tabby King, who had just finished overseeing the construction, lazily licked his paws and said in a drawl, “That little rascal was eyeing the chickens all day, practically drooling. Bet he wandered over to the coop, up to no good.”
Nina’s heart skipped a beat, and she took off running toward the chicken coop.
On the way to the coop, she had to pass by the patch of lawn where Quentin’s RV was always parked.
But before she could even get close, she spotted the chaos on the lawn from a distance-she nearly passed out right then
and there.
The hens from the coop had somehow managed to stage a jailbreak, and now they were strutting around the lawn in small groups, looking totally chill and unbothered.
Even more ridiculous, a few of them were perched proudly on top of Quentin’s shiny, luxury RV, acting like it was their personal viewing platform.
