Chapter 20
The young officer leaned forward, his voice steady as he explained, “Thallium is a heavy metal that’s both colorless and tasteless. It easily seeps into food and water without detection.”
He continued, “If someone is exposed to it over time, they’ll start losing their hair, feel constantly exhausted, and experience strange tingling sensations in their hands and feet. Eventually, their thinking becomes clouded, and their organs begin to fail.”
An older officer chimed in, “Back in the day, thallium was commonly used as the main ingredient in rodenticides.”
Jason was about to yawn, fatigue weighing on him, but the information hit him like a freight train. He suddenly sat upright, running a hand through his hair in disbelief. “Oh no… I’ve eaten multiple meals at home—all cooked by Cecile.”
As he scratched his scalp, a few strands of his blond hair drifted down to the floor. He froze, panic rising in his chest. Without hesitation, he grabbed his phone. “I need to call an ambulance for myself—right now, before it’s too late.”
Downstairs, Cecile entered the villa carrying a stack of freshly laundered clothes. Hearing some commotion coming from the maid’s room, her curiosity got the better of her, and she walked over to investigate.
The moment she spotted the uniformed officers standing there, the clothes slipped from her grasp and tumbled to the floor. She spun around, preparing to flee.
“Don’t move!” one of the cops barked sharply.
Within seconds, Cecile was tackled to the ground and handcuffed. Her eyes widened in shock as she was restrained.
Meanwhile, Nina’s livestream was exploding with activity. The viewer count soared past a thousand, as people couldn’t believe they were witnessing a genuine police arrest unfolding live on camera. Comments flooded in rapidly:
[Whoa, came here for gossip but stayed for a real arrest happening live!]
[I’ve been watching since the beginning. This streamer’s legit—like an actual animal whisperer. Subscribed!]
[All I expected was some fake heiress drama, but she’s actually an amazing communicator with animals.]
Those who had tuned in to mock Nina only ended up boosting her popularity. Frustrated and defeated, the critics stormed out of the livestream in a huff.
The officers led Cecile away in handcuffs just as Jason’s ambulance screeched to a halt in front of the villa.
Before climbing inside, Jason sent Nina a gift through the livestream and messaged her privately on the platform. But just as he was about to sign off, Nina suddenly swayed on camera, her body collapsing to the floor.
“Nina!” Taro, cradled in Jason’s arms, clawed at him anxiously, desperate for help.
“Come on, Nina! Wake up! Don’t leave me like this!” Jason’s voice cracked with panic, his eyes glued to the screen in disbelief. Then, as a surge of determination hit him, he grabbed his phone to call emergency services.

In a sleek, modern office building in Jelasburg, the conference room was silent, the tension palpable. Everyone held their breath, waiting to see what would happen next.
At the head of the long table sat Quentin Hayes, flipping through a contract with a calm, practiced air. His black suit emphasized his broad shoulders, and he casually twirled a Montblanc pen between his fingers.
Suddenly, his phone buzzed. Quentin glanced down at the screen—Jason’s name flashed. He frowned, irritation flickering across his face. ‘Why is this kid calling my private line without warning?’
“Quentin, you’re in Jelasburg on business, right? Bro, I really need your help. It’s serious!” Jason’s voice was urgent, almost desperate.
Quentin’s pen paused mid-twirl. He cast a quick glance at the expectant faces around the table and replied coldly, “Jason, this better be about something life-or-death.”
