Chapter 206 Cyanide

Chapter 206 Cyanide

Nina’s eyes sparkled with joy. She thought, ‘Awesome. Blanche can finally go home, and the money is about to hit my account.’

Soon, the team that went to arrest Vance returned, bringing the suspect with them.

As Vance was brought over, he was still yelling about being innocent and framed.

However, when he saw the evidence bag in the cop’s hand, with that thick black bag he knew all too well, he just froze, totally stunned.

Vance kept insisting, still playing dumb. “That’s just a regular trash bag. You guys are trying to pin this on me for no reason.” Nina took the evidence bag and held it out to Vance. “If it’s just a regular trash bag with trash inside, then why don’t you touch it with your bare hands, Dr. Oakley?”

Vance’s face went ghostly pale, and he stumbled back a few steps.

The elder cop waved his hand. “Take him away.”

As they escorted Vance and the evidence bag out, the whole squad was still reeling, barely processing what had just happened.

With all that pressure hanging over them, nobody thought they’d crack the case and find the evidence this fast.

It was almost too easy; they nabbed him with evidence, everything laid out in front of them.

They thought, ‘How did Ms. Summer do this? She had only just arrived in Forestville two hours ago.’

As two officers escorted Vance out, the elder cop turned to Nina. “Ms. Summer, this is fast. How did you do it?” The other officers crowded around Nina, all giving her thumbs-up. “Ms. Summer, you’re a legend. You caught the suspect in record time.”

Nina smiled and waved it off, giving credit where it was due. “This is all thanks to our top intelligence agent, Cocky.”

As she spoke, she scooped up Amber and gave him a gentle rub. “And of course, the real hero who led us to Cocky, Amber.” Amber’s head shot up, his eyes sparkling with pride. “I found him. I found the bad guy who hurt Kaysen.”

He excitedly kneaded his paws in Nina’s arms, then added in a whisper, “Yeah, maybe the whole thing was a bit embarrassing for a cat, but the ending was awesome, right? I’m a genius.”

Meanwhile, Cocky watched as Vance was handcuffed and led into the police car. She just wilted, her feathers drooping in total disappointment.

She said, “No way. I’m so upset. I’ve been preening every day, just waiting for him to show up, but he turns out to be a poisoner. He really breaks my heart.”

Nina couldn’t help but laugh, reaching out to gently pat Cocky’s head. “Hey, it’s alright. Even if he let you down, you uncovered the truth and became the hero of the day.”

As she spoke, she pulled out all the bird treats she had on her and set them in front of Cocky. “These are all for you. I’ll officially recommend you to the police and give you a reward.”

Cocky’s eyes lit up instantly. She cocked her head, thought for a second, then started acting all bashful.

She said, “Thanks. When you bring me the reward, can you send the handsome officer over?”

Nina was stunned for a moment, then couldn’t help but bend over laughing. “Alright, I promise I’ll pass on your special request.”

She thought, ‘Cocky and Misty Fang would definitely get along well. Too bad they’re miles apart.’

After saying goodbye to the cockatoo, Nina headed back to Winston Manor with Amber.

“Mr. Warner, any luck? Did you figure out who went to the garden?” Nina asked, barely able to contain her excitement.

Ramon came over, excited. “We got it. It was Mr. Winston’s third son, Timothy Winston.

“We found a key witness. A gardener saw him on the phone near the garden just before it happened. The timing lines up perfectly with what Cocky told us.”

He added excitedly, “Vance confessed in record time, hoping to plead guilty. He admitted it was Timothy who put him up to it. He slipped the poison onto Amber’s collar what she was taking a bidh

but after ponent, it all made sense to her.

In cases like this, Vance was just the guy who did the dirty work; the real brain behind the whole scheme was Timothy.

By law, Timothy was the main culprit, and with how targeted, sneaky, and nasty his plan was, he could be staring down ten years in prison, life, or even a death sentence.

Vance’s only shot now was to give up the guy pulling the strings.

If he could prove he was just following orders, maybe he’d get off a little easier.

After all, no one was gonna risk their life for money.

Nina couldn’t help but ask, “Did Vance say what kind of poison he used on Mr. Winston?”

Ramon’s face turned serious as he explained, “It was cyanide, a deadly toxin. Even a tiny amount can kill someone in just a

few minutes.

“He dripped a few drops right into the tiny crevice where the metal setting meets the gem on Amber’s collar.”

He went on. “When Mr. Winston pressed his face into Amber’s neck for a cuddle, his mouth and nose were right up against the collar. With every breath, he’d inhale tiny bits of cyanide.

“And when Amber moved, the collar would heat up from friction, making the cyanide gas evaporate faster, so Kaysen would end up breathing it in without even knowing.

“This was a seriously sneaky and vicious way to poison someone. They used Mr. Winston’s love for his cat as the perfect cover. No one would ever suspect a thing.”

He turned to Nina and said, “If you hadn’t shown up to help us out, we’d still be totally in the dark.”

Just then, two officers were escorting a young man in a sharp suit out of the building.

The man’s eyes were cold and menacing, and the handcuffs on his wrists were glaring. He struggled against the officers, shouting in a frenzy. “It wasn’t me. I didn’t poison my dad.

“This has to be my siblings. They must have bribed the cops to frame me. They just want to snatch all the inheritance for themselves.”

Ramon’s face hardened as he snapped, “Enough. Be quiet. Vance has already confessed everything in detail to plead guilty.
