Chapter 219

The reporter kept talking, “Word is, those two who went into the mountains are big shots from the city, with backgrounds so mysterious, nobody can figure them out.

“Just to find a relative, they actually dragged the county police chief into the mountains, risking his neck for them.

“It’s like she’s treating a serious investigation as her own fantasy quest! Totally out of line.”

His loaded comments instantly got the villagers talking.

“So they’re insiders, huh? No wonder there’s such a big fuss.”

“They’ve got some serious clout, but I just hope the cops don’t end up paying the price for it!”

Meanwhile, Skyla, the young intern standing next to the reporter, was blushing furiously.

She was a huge fan of Nina’s zoo videos, and she just couldn’t hold back anymore. She nervously tugged at the reporter’s sleeve and said, “Forrest, we can’t be so quick to judge.”

She gathered her courage and spoke up clearly. “Nina is a certified animal communicator officially hired by the police. Her expertise is recognized.

“We shouldn’t jump to conclusions before the truth comes out. That’s neither professional nor fair.”

Forrest was instantly embarrassed and furious at being called out in public. He shot Skyla a nasty glare.

He said, “Who’s the intern here, you or me? Kid, I’ve been around way longer than you. Just zip it!”

He cast a pained look at his phone, still recording, and muttered in a low voice, “I was really on a roll, and you just had to mess it all up!”

Just then, an ambulance came roaring down the bumpy road, sirens blaring, and pulled up at the mountain

entrance.

Forrest pounced on the scene as he’d just found solid proof. He said in a high voice, “See that? The ambulance is here! What does that tell you? Something big must’ve happened up there, either someone’s seriously hurt, or worse, someone’s dead.

He sounded like he’d predicted it all along. “I told you! Three people charging into Emerald Mountain with a herd of rampaging takins? That’s just reckless and irresponsible. It’s a blatant disregard for human life.”

His provocative words immediately got the villagers riled up.

“Exactly! Those takins have killed people before, and they still act like it’s nothing!”

“I saw that guy and girl in their outdoor jackets yesterday. I tried to warn them not to go up the mountain, but they wouldn’t listen. Do they really think they’re stronger than those beasts?”

“Yeah, that’s just how those city kids with connections are. When something goes wrong, it’s always others who get dragged into their mess!”

Skyla listened as the villagers kept piling on, her anxiety and anger mixing until her eyes grew red with frustration. She tried to protest, but her voice was so faint it got swallowed up by the crowd’s shouting.

Meanwhile, Forrest had finished chewing out Skyla. He quickly told the cameraman to set up, put on a solemn face, and launched into his live report.

He said, “Ladies and gentlemen, this is Headline Live! We’ve just received some heartbreaking news about the Emerald Mountain takin attack.

“A so-called animal communicator and a police officer forced their way into the mountains, even dragging the county police chief along with them.

“Now, all three have been missing for an entire night, and their fate is still unknown. I’m afraid the odds are stacked against them. They may have fallen victim to the rampaging takins.”

Just as Forrest was speaking confidently to the camera, about to drop his sensational conclusion, suddenly, the ground started to rumble with a steady, rhythmic beat, like an army charging out of the mountains.

“What’s that noise? Is it an earthquake?”

The crowd started freaking out, glancing around in confusion and fear.

Then, a powerful, thunderous bellow rang out from deep in the forest, the sound so intense it made everyone’s eardrums throb.

“It’s the takins. The whole herd is stampeding down.”

“Those three who went up the mountain must’ve enraged the takins. They’re a disaster for everyone!”

Someone let out a scream, and the crowd went into chaos, scattering in terror as they rushed to get away.

Forrest’s face turned ghostly pale, his earlier air of professionalism gone in a flash. He dropped the microphone and took off running.

Only Skyla and the dedicated cameraman, both fighting back their fear, held onto the trembling equipment, trying their best to keep it steady.

But before the panicked crowd could get far, what happened next blew everyone’s mind.

There was Nina, riding tall and steady atop the mighty lead takin, with Simon and Elias flanking her on either side. The three looked exhausted, but their eyes were sharp and full of fire, like heroes riding back in triumph.

Behind them, the takin herd marched in like a moving fortress, their steps steady and their aura absolutely awe-inspiring.

The villagers, who had been scrambling back in terror, suddenly froze in place, totally stunned. They just stood there, jaws dropped, staring at the unbelievable scene in front of them.

“Oh my

God. Am I seeing things? She’s actually riding that killer takin?” one villager stammered, rubbing his eyes hard, his voice shaking.

“How is this even possible? These takins were so wild just a few days ago, and now they’re as gentle as pets?”

“Didn’t the takins kill that herbalist? What the hell is going on here?”

Skyla, who had just steadied the tripod, caught sight of the radiant figure on the takin’s back. Her eyes instantly sparkled with pure admiration, stars practically shining in her gaze.

Inside, Skyla was screaming with excitement. She thought, ‘Oh my God. It’s Ms. Summer! She actually got a takin to carry her down the mountain.

‘I knew she was the absolute best!.

The scene in front of her was a hundred times more epic than anything she’d ever seen in Nina’s videos.

Forrest snapped out of his shock, his news hound instincts flaring up and adrenaline surging through him.

‘Now this is the real headline!’ he thought, his heart pounding with excitement.

He scrambled back to the cameraman and said with excitement, “Hurry, get the shot. Focus on them. Don’t miss a single frame.”

Just then, the police and paramedics rushed over.
