Chapter 220

Nina’s eyes flicked over the Headline Live mic in Forrest’s hand, then landed on the young girl behind him; her eyes rimmed red, shoved aside by the crowd.
“Are you a journalist?” Nina asked, her tone calm and unreadable.
Forrest immediately straightened up, flashing a professional smile and answered, “Yes, I am! I’m Forrest, the chief reporter for Headline Live.”
‘Seriously, can anyone call themselves a journalist these days?’ Nina thought, her frown deepening.
Her eyes were full of undisguised disappointment. She said, “There’s no point explaining the case to someone like you who can’t tell right from wrong.”
Before Forrest could respond, Nina turned to Skyla, her gaze softening as she beckoned her over. Nina said, “You. I’ll interview with you.”
With all the chaos swirling around, Nina knew she had to use the media to stand up for the takins; they’d been wrongly accused, and it was time to set the record straight.
“Me?” Skyla blurted out, barely daring to believe what she’d just heard.
She was so stunned with joy that all her earlier frustration vanished in an instant.
She sucked in a breath, strode right up to Forrest, and before he could even blink, grabbed the mic straight out of his hand, fueled by pure adrenaline.
‘Gimme that! This is my once-in-a-lifetime chance to interview my idol,’ Skyla thought, her heart racing
Skyla had imagined this scene in her mind a million times, standing there with a mic, cool and collected, interviewing Nina like a true pro.
For her, as a journalism major and a die-hard fan, this was the ultimate fantasy.
She honestly never thought her dream would come true this fast.
The cameraman, totally on board, swung the camera right over to Skyla.
Just a moment ago, he was lugging all that heavy gear and nearly wiped out; good thing Skyla jumped in to help him out.
“Ms. Summer,” Skyla steadied herself and asked, “What really happened up on the mountain? Were the takins really the ones who killed the herbalist?”
“No. The real culprit is someone else,” Nina replied, her voice steady and direct.
Nina kept it brief, sharing only what could go public. She said, “Last night, we caught a most-wanted fugitive on the mountain. He admitted to the murder himself.”

Skyla demonstrated impressive professionalism throughout the interview.
:))
“So, Ms. Summer, this time you not only cleared the takins’ name and rescued a trapped victim, but also managed to apprehend a most-wanted fugitive; is that right?” Skyla asked, her voice steady and confident.
Her summary question hit like a resounding slap to the faces of everyone who had doubted and criticized them before.
The villagers erupted in shock, a wave of gasps rippling through the crowd.
“Wait, does that mean we’ve been sharing the mountain with a murderer all this time?” someone blurted out, their voice trembling with disbelief.
“We totally wronged the takins! Those poor guys didn’t deserve any of this!” another person shouted, regret clear in their voice.
Nina swept her gaze over the guilt-stricken villagers and asked, “The takins on Emerald Mountain might be a bit hot-tempered, but before all this, did any of them ever hurt anyone on purpose?
“They’ve been branded as killers for no reason, living in fear and constantly misunderstood by everyone.
“Now that the truth is out, don’t you think it’s time to make things right for them and apologize?”
As her words faded, the takins beside her swept their huge, bright eyes over the crowd, their gaze intense and commanding.
“This is great. Ms. Summer is really our voice, standing up for us,” one of the takins said, feeling a surge of pride.
“We have to apologize. We really do!” The villagers, completely floored by the scene, started calling out one after another.
“Big Takin, we’re sorry. We were blind and totally misjudged you!” someone shouted, their voice full of regret.
“Thanks for helping us catch the bad guy!” another person said, their tone full of gratitude.
Amidst the noisy chorus of apologies, Skyla asked, “Shouldn’t we also apologize to Ms. Summer, Mr. Reed,
and Mr. Muir?
“They risked their lives going into the mountains, not only uncovering the truth and saving someone, but also catching a fugitive, and yet we were the ones questioning them just moments ago.”
The villagers’ faces turned red with shame as they looked over at Nina, Simon, and Elias.
“Ms. Summer, Mr. Reed, Mr. Muir, we’re really sorry. We said a bunch of dumb stuff earlier,” one of the villagers said, voice thick with regret.
“Thank you all. You really went through a lot for us!” another chimed in, their gratitude clear.

Chapter 220
With the villagers’ apologies and thanks ringing out, the thrilling hunt for the real culprit in the woods finally wrapped up.
Nina and the crew bid farewell to their takin buddies, then joined the convoy heading back to Emerald County.
That evening, at Emerald County General Hospital, when Nina and Simon walked into the hospital room carrying a fruit basket, Lorelai was already awake, looking much better than before.
Even though Benson was in a wheelchair himself, he was taking care of his mother with meticulous attention.
As soon as he saw Nina and Simon, Benson was about to bend in gratitude, but Simon caught him in one swift motion and held him steady.
Benson said, his voice thick with emotion, “I really didn’t expect you to rescue my mom so quickly.
“You really are just as incredible as Tanya.”
“The doctor said I just need to rest and take it easy. My foot will heal with time,” Lorelai said, her voice soft but steady.
When Lorelai caught sight of Nina and Simon, her eyes immediately filled with tears. Overwhelmed, she tried to sit up, her emotions surging uncontrollably.
“It was you. The moment I saw you at the bottom of the cliff today, I just knew; it was fate. You were meant to be the ones to save me,” she said, her voice trembling with emotion.
As she spoke, she and Benson shared a look that said it all.
Benson got the hint right away and said to Nina and Simon, “I’ll go ask the doctor about the follow-up care. You two go ahead and talk.”
He spun his wheelchair around and rolled out of the room.
The door closed softly behind him.
