The Fake Heiress and Her Purrfect Partner novel Chapter 230

Chapter 230

Before Quentin said a word, a senior doctor stepped up, his expression stern as he looked at Drew.

He said, “Sir, please keep quiet and wait patiently in the waiting area. Here at Goodwin Hospital, we know what we’re doing.”

The doctor shot Drew a look, making it clear whose side he was on. “She’s actually our top animal communicator, Ms. Nina Summer.

“Every second you spent doubting and getting in the way just made it harder for us to get the information we needed to save your dad.”

Drew swallowed hard, his throat tight.

Quentin hadn’t said a word the whole time. He just shot Drew a cold, dismissive look.

Drew’s face went ghostly pale. That single glance froze him, wiping away all his bravado and anger.

“Q-Quentin,” Drew stammered, barely able to get the words out. Almost on instinct, he backed away to the waiting area and sat down, not even daring to breathe.

As soon as Nina saw Quentin, she rushed over with Stubby in her arms. Without thinking, she grabbed his lab coat sleeve.

She said urgently, “Quentin, get me a nasal cannula and set the oxygen flow to the lowest setting. Put it on the snake. It needs oxygen.”

Stubby probably suffered a lot on the way here. It was now unconscious.

Nina didn’t hold back, rattling off a list of medicines to Quentin. “And I need dexamethasone injection, normal saline, and the smallest-gauge insulin syringe you’ve got.”

The medical staff nearby, all eavesdropping, were left speechless.

She’s not only calling Mr. Hayes by his first name, but bossing him around? And she’s even grabbing his sleeve,’ they thought, stunned.

Quentin didn’t get mad as they expected. The moment she finished speaking, he turned to the doctor behind him and said calmly, “Get it done.”

The doctor blinked in surprise, then quickly stepped forward. With a respectful gesture, he guided Nina. “Ms. Summer, the emergency prep room is this way. Please follow me.”

Nina nodded and hurried after him, clutching Stubby tightly.

As she brushed past Quentin, he softened his tone and said in a low voice, “Take it easy. Just tell me what you need.”

All the tension in Nina’s body melted away in an instant.

Nina’s lashes trembled, and she blurted out, “Thanks!” Then she rushed to save Stubby.

After a frantic scramble, Nina managed to stabilize Stubby. It was now breathing quietly on oxygen.

She breathed a long sigh of relief, and the tension in her shoulders eased.

The nurse beside her said softly, “Ms. Summer, Mr. Hayes asked us to remind you to get a check-up when you’re finished here. Don’t worry, we’ll take good care of the snake.”

After thanking the nurse, Nina stepped out of the treatment room and caught sight of the emergency stretcher being wheeled out.

Drew’s father was lying on it, his cheeks flushed with color again and his breathing steady. He was being taken to a general ward. He was clearly out of danger.

The female doctor who had backed Nina up earlier was now explaining the follow-up care to Drew.

Drew looked up and locked eyes with Nina as she walked out.

His face went ghostly pale in an instant. All his earlier swagger vanished, leaving only embarrassment and shock.

The female doctor’s eyes lit up when she saw Nina. “Nina, thank you so much! The information you gave us came in before the blood test results did.

“Once we figured out the patient had breathed in a ton of ragweed pollen and went into acute shock, our team switched up the treatment plan right away. Everything went super smoothly after that.”

Drew stood there, frozen, wishing the ground would swallow him.

Nina was still wondering why the doctor was so friendly when her eyes caught the name tag: Lana, Director of the Cardiopulmonary Center.

Lana noticed her confusion and smiled. “I’m Lana, Quentin’s cousin. Besides, I’m the director of the Cardiopulmonary Center here.”

Her tone was bright and professional. “Quentin has mentioned you before. I’m glad to meet you.”

Nina nodded sweetly. “Lana, thanks for all your hard work saving the patient.”

Drew had been trying to blend into the background, about to breathe a sigh of relief,

Just then, Lana called him out. “Drew, you should thank Ms. Summer. If she hadn’t figured out the allergen right away, your dad’s treatment wouldn’t have gone so smoothly.”

Nina cast Drew a sly glance. “Someone just called me a nobody.”

Drew’s face turned red, shame written all over him.

He clenched his fists, mumbled under his breath, voice barely audible through gritted teeth. “Sorry.”

Nina crossed her arms, shot him a frosty look, sizing him up from head to toe. “That was your apology? Your voice is a whisper. Who scared you, coward?”

Drew had always been the center of attention. He had never been insulted this hard in his life.

A vein stood out at his temple. He pointed at Nina and stammered, “Y-you…” His chest rose and fell, but no

retort came.

Nina couldn’t be bothered to look at him anymore. She held out her hand.

“I’m an expert vet and animal communicator, and my time is billed by the minute. You’ll also need to cover oxygen, meds, and any supplies used to treat the snake, as well as compensation for my time and the emotional toll. Pay now,” she said.

She paused, then added, “Since you’ve been through enough, I’ll give you a discount. You can only pay me 30 thousand dollars.

“Aren’t the Lowell family hotshots? Don’t tell me you can’t even cough up that much.”

Drew was so mad that he nearly blacked out. “I’m not going to stiff you.”

With that, he gave 30 thousand dollars to Nina. His dad kept a tight leash on his allowance. 30 thousand dollars was pretty much his whole month’s spending money.

Drew cursed his big mouth. As soon as he paid up, he practically fled. He was afraid that Nina would make him pay until he had nothing left.

Nina’s mood instantly lifted when she saw the money. She thought that Stubby’s trip home was officially on Drew’s dime.

Then she realized that Lana was beside her. She quickly returned to normal, looking a little sheepish as she looked at Lana and rubbed her nose.

“Lana, I can be a bit quick-tempered sometimes. I tend to be pretty blunt,” Nina admitted.

Lana’s eyes sparkled with amusement. “No worries. Our family actually likes straightforward people.”

After saying goodbye to Lana, Nina followed the nurse up to the third floor.

Quentin was already waiting in the exam room, his white lab coat making him look even taller and sharper, his vibe chill and professional.

After a series of tests, Nina was invited to Quentin’s office to take a break.

Quentin then walked in, holding a stack of fresh reports.

He sat down behind his massive desk, head bowed as he flipped through the test results.
