The Fake Heiress and Her Purrfect Partner novel Chapter 229

Chapter 229

420

The patient’s family member who was holding Stubby was a young man in a jacket and a bucket hat.

He looked young, with a small stud in his left ear. His outfit marked him as someone rich, and the man on the stretcher was likely his father.

From their clothes, it looked like they were out fishing when an accident occurred.

Everyone in the hospital was amazed when they saw him grab the snake with his bare hands. Someone exclaimed, “Man, that’s gutsy! He just snatched a venomous snake with his bare hands.”

Another staff member said, “You don’t see many young people these days who know basic first aid, let alone know about bringing the snake so we can identify the species.”

Amid all the praise, Nina suddenly pushed her way through the crowd and hurried forward.

She said, “Wait! The patient wasn’t bitten by this snake. This one’s non-venomous.”

As soon as she said that, the dying snake in the young man’s hand suddenly started writhing with excitement, as if it had seen a hero swoop in to save the day.

Stubby frantically twisted its head toward Nina, then said, “Oh my god! Finally, someone’s here to set things right for me.

“I saw this guy out on the hillside, digging for worms, and he sneezed in the tall grass.

“He only took two steps before he suddenly started convulsing and collapsed.”

As Stubby spoke, the young man squeezed it even harder.

“Give it to me, quick!” Nina rushed up. “You’re about to kill it.”

“Let it die, then,” the young man growled.

Drew, the guy who caught Stubby, loved every second of being called brave and smart.

But when Nina called him out in front of everyone, his face dropped. He shot back, “Who are you? You’re not a doctor. Why are you causing trouble?”

Drew’s voice was cocky, full of hostility. He sneered, “Do you know who’s lying on that stretcher? If you mess up my dad’s treatment, can you handle the consequences?”

Just then, a professional female doctor strode over with her team.

She glanced at Stubby in Drew’s hand and said without hesitation, “She’s right. That’s Calamaria septentrionalis. It’s not venomous. Those symptoms couldn’t have come from it.”

Drew’s face flushed crimson. He was at a loss for words, just staring at Nina angrily.

The doctor wasted no time, ordering the nurses to rush the patient into the emergency room.

Drew flushed and glared at Nina. “You think you’re so smart? Even if it wasn’t this snake, so what? Can you do anything to help my dad?”

But Nina’s eyes were locked on the dying snake in his hand.

She didn’t have time for pointless arguments. She reached out and said, “Quick, give me the snake. I’m an animal communicator, and this snake just told me what really knocked your dad out.”

“What the hell are you talking about?” Drew snapped. “If you know so much, prove it, genius.”

He gave her a once-over, eyes full of sarcasm. “Pulling this freak show just to get my attention? I’ve seen too many people trying to cozy up to my family.”

Still smarting from being called out in front of everyone, Drew shot Nina a nasty glare and hurled Stubby at her. “Fine, take it. Keep up your act.”

The sudden move sent a wave of startled cries through the crowd.

Everyone stared in horror, and James instinctively stepped forward, trying to shield Nina.

Drew stood there with a wicked grin. He was sure Nina would freak out and jump away in terror.

But Nina didn’t flinch at all. She reached out with both hands and caught Stubby gently.

Her face stayed calm. She looked down, softly running her fingertips over the snake’s cold scales. She said gently, “Don’t be afraid. You’re safe now.”

Drew’s eyes widened in shock, his expression turning even darker. He thought, “This girl has got guts. How far is she willing to go to get my attention?’

The barely alive snake seemed to finally find hope, instantly wrapping itself around Nina’s wrist.

Its head rubbed against the base of her thumb, letting out a pitiful whimper. “Thank you so much. I was so

scared.”

“Easy now,” Nina whispered, her voice low and urgent. “You said the man collapsed after coming into contact with a bushy plant that had serrated leaves, right? Can you give me a more detailed description of what that plant looked like?”

Stubby did its best to help Nina out. It said, “The leaves looked like a bunch of fingers all spread wide, with rough, jagged edges. And on top, there were clusters of yellow-green, fuzzy little rods.

“That guy was yanking up this plant when he let out a huge sneeze, and those fuzzy rods just burst apart and went flying everywhere.”

“Yellow-green and fuzzy on top.” Nina’s eyes suddenly lit up as it clicked for her. She blurted out, “That’s probably ragweed.”

Ragweed was found all over the world. It was the main culprit behind allergies and asthma attacks for tons of

people.

For people with severe allergies, inhaling large amounts of its pollen could trigger allergic shock.

“Ragweed? Seriously?” Drew was so annoyed that he almost burst out laughing. He hated Nina very much because she called him out, and he thought she was spouting nonsense.

He scoffed, “What, you gonna start babbling about plant encyclopedias now? You’re really talking out of your ass, making it sound all official.”

Nina didn’t even bother with his sarcasm. She grabbed James by the arm, her voice firm. “James, hurry! Get in touch with the doctor right now. Tell her the patient is probably having an acute allergic shock from ragweed.”

Now that they had figured out the source of the allergy, everything would be much easier to handle.

James knew Nina wasn’t just talking big. He didn’t hesitate, nodding quickly. “Got it.”

He spun around and dashed to the emergency room.

“Hey! You two!” Drew yelled, his face red with anger as he watched Nina and James completely ignore him and do whatever they wanted. “Does the patient’s family even get a say here?”

He turned his sarcasm on James and the hospital. “Seriously, why is James letting her call the shots? How does this hospital work? Goodwin Hospital lets some nobody come in and tell everyone what to do?”

Finally, he locked eyes with Nina, practically spitting out the words through gritted teeth. “Who the hell gave you the right to boss people around here?”

“I did.” A cool, commanding voice spoke up from behind, loaded with absolute authority.

All the noise in the room was instantly shut down. The whole hospital lobby went dead silent.

Drew’s swagger vanished in an instant. He clammed up.

Nina turned around and saw Quentin coming this way from across the hospital.

He walked calmly, the medical team instinctively keeping a few paces behind him.

Quentin wore an immaculately white lab coat and stood tall with perfect posture. His charming eyes were fixed on Nina.
