Chapter 232

The head of the nutritionist team couldn’t wait to speak up. “Ms. Summer, we absolutely need to bring Nina on board as our consultant.
“With her leading the project, I’m confident our product will take the Eastland market by storm and impress the world.”
With the professional team speaking up, the shareholders didn’t dare say another word. All they could do was hope the dog food would launch soon so they could recoup their losses.
Claire stood off to the side, unable to get a word in, a sour feeling welling up in her chest.
She had been on guard, thinking Nina was just pretending to cooperate and was actually here to mess things up. But the reactions from those top nutritionists were the real deal. Nina’s plan was flawless.
A complicated mix of emotions surged through Claire. She couldn’t tell if she felt relieved or just more jealous, especially when Claire saw the undisguised look of admiration in Joanna’s eyes as she gazed at Nina.
She immediately looked anxiously at Joanna, waiting for her decision.
Joanna remained calm and gave a direct order. “Claire, bring out the consultant contract and sign it with Nina.”
“Wait,” Nina said, stopping everything in its tracks.
Claire paused, eyes narrowing as she stared at Nina, her guard instantly up.
The shareholders immediately frowned, clearly annoyed.
“What are you trying to pull now? Two million dollars in consulting fees and dividends still not enough for you?” One of them said.
“Of course not,” Nina said coolly, smiling. “I just want to add a few extra provisions to the contract to protect my interests, just in case.”
Then the conference room door swung open. An employee rolled in a cart stacked with documents and began distributing thick folders to every shareholder.
One shareholder hefted the folder and almost snorted with laughter. “This addendum’s at least fifty pages. Nina, seriously? You expect us to sit here and slog through this wall of legalese?”
Nina met all those unhappy stares with total composure. She said calmly but without giving an inch, “Ms. Claire Summer has gone after me more than once, and the Summer Group has already cost me dearly.
“Once bitten, twice shy. I won’t make the same mistake twice.”
“My demands are simple,” Nina continued, locking eyes with Claire. “First, Claire has to be the project assistant and be there every step of the way.

“If anything goes wrong during the project, she’ll take full responsibility for it.”
Nina glanced around at the shareholders, her voice firm. “Second, my job is only to make sure the formula is launched, and the trial production is completed.
“Whatever happens with marketing or sales after that is not on me. You can’t use it as an excuse to shortchange my consulting fees.
“The final payment for my consulting fees must be paid in full within three working days after the finished product passes inspection.”
Nina stood up, tapping her finger on the supplementary clauses. “Everything’s here. I had a top-tier team of business lawyers draft this.
“It’s specifically to prevent anyone from tampering with the project, or trying to shift the blame onto me afterward.”
Claire’s face went pale with anger as she listened to Nina’s demands.
She complained, sounding wronged, “Aunt Joanna, look at what she’s doing…”
“It’s very good. You’ve thought of everything,” Joanna cut Claire off.
The lawyers quickly skimmed through those fifty pages of clauses. Then Joanna looked at Nina and slid the contract back across the table gracefully. “We’ll include every clause and draft a new official contract.
“Does that put your mind at ease?”
Joanna understood the situation perfectly. Charles’s stubborn hostility toward Nina led to his downfall, and she was the one who ultimately profited.
Joanna would never make the same mistake.
She had always played the role of the kind aunt, secretly having Nina’s back. Now, that goodwill was finally coming in clutch.
With two million dollars and a bunch of harmless clauses, she could win Nina’s trust and make Nina work for her. She thought she turned an old rival into her personal cash cow.
This was a deal too good to pass up.
“The one million dollars down payment will be in your account by the end of today,” Joanna said.
She stood up and reached out her hand to Nina. “Nina, welcome back to the Summer Group.”
Then she turned to Claire, whose face was pale. “With you two here in Jelasburg, I should head back to Juniper. Claire, make sure you support Nina.”
Her words sounded offhand, but they effectively cemented Claire’s role as Nina’s assistant.
Claire lowered her head and pressed her fingernails into her palms. “Okay.”

Chapter 232
She couldn’t shake the feeling that Nina was looking at her with a cold, unreadable gaze. It sent a chill down. her spine.
As soon as the meeting wrapped up, Nina cut Claire off before she could leave.
“I’m putting together my own R&D and marketing teams,” Nina said, shoving a list into Claire’s hand.
“I want you to poach the people on this list,” she continued.
Claire looked at the list, and her heart nearly stopped.
Most of the people were working at rival companies. They might not be the big shots, but if she wanted to steal them away, she would have to shell out a fortune.
