The Fragrance Queen's Final Note novel Chapter 119

Zander's heart practically leapt out of his throat.

Snapping out of his paralysis, he instantly leaned his torso firmly against the edge of the desk, desperately trying to block any view of the space beneath it.

He forced a painfully stiff smile onto his face. "Q-Queenie... I thought you went to bed?"

Queenie had intended to sleep, but knowing Zander's repulsive habits, she figured the second she rejected him, he'd go running to his favorite little outlet to heal his bruised ego.

Adding that to the lingering fury over the sabotaged birthday gift... She simply couldn't let it go.

Renata was rotten to the core. A single slap across the face was nowhere near enough payback.

So Queenie had purposefully marched down to the study, fully intending to play dumb.

Though looking at Zander's utterly terrified face, she already had all the confirmation she needed.

"I tried to sleep, but I couldn't. I felt bad about how I spoke to you earlier, so I came to apologize. Grandpa was really brutal tonight, and I took my bad mood out on you. Please don't hold it against me."

Zander nodded so fast he looked like a bobblehead. "It's fine! No worries at all! I totally understand."

"Good. I'm glad we're okay."

From the corner of her eye, Queenie caught a glimpse of a dark shadow huddled under the desk.

She feigned a look of sweet concern. "It's so late. Are you still working?"

"Yes! Yes, I have some urgent documents to review."

In his panic, Zander grabbed a random file from the stack and aggressively flipped it open, pretending to read.

"Well, don't push yourself too hard. You need to take care of your health."

Her eyes darted around the room, landing maliciously on the sleek electric kettle resting on the bookshelf counter.

She sauntered over and gracefully poured him a steaming cup of freshly brewed hot coffee.

Checking to make sure it was hot enough to hurt but not enough to cause third-degree burns, she carried the porcelain cup over to Zander. "Take a break. Have something to drink."

Zander was absolutely floored by her sudden sweetness.

Grinning like an idiot, he reached out to take the cup. Suddenly, Queenie's hand "slipped," and the hot coffee cascaded over the edge of the desk.

It splashed directly onto Renata's exposed back. While it wasn't strictly boiling, it was more than hot enough to elicit a muffled, agonizing gasp.
