Queenie's expression was murderously dark as she strode right up to her.
Before Renata even had time to react, Queenie raised her hand and delivered a vicious slap straight across her face.
Renata's expression changed instantly. She hung up the phone, touched her burning cheek, and demanded coldly, "What the hell did you hit me for?"
"Did you really think I wouldn't find out what kind of filthy tricks you were pulling? A few days ago, you had your daughter plant a toy to frame me. That was just laying the groundwork for last night's trap, wasn't it? If I 'couldn't stand the loneliness' and went out to mess around with some random guy—between the toy at home and the solid proof of me cheating at a hotel—I wouldn't be able to defend myself, would I?!"
Faced with Queenie's furious accusations, Renata merely let out a dismissive sneer. "Queenie, do you really think I'm the only one in this house who wants to set you up? What if I told you the person who orchestrated the whole thing was actually Zander? Would that break your heart?"
Queenie's pupils dilated in pure shock. The world suddenly fell terrifyingly silent. Her already pale face lost the very last trace of color it had.
She dug her trembling fingernails into her palms. "Impossible!"
"You don't think Zander has a reason to set you up? What if he wanted to manufacture proof of you cheating, so that when you eventually found out about our little secret, your own guilt would force you to swallow your anger and keep your mouth shut? Does that sound like a good enough reason?"
Queenie's mind instantly descended into chaos.
Right at that moment, Zenia called.
Queenie choked back her grief and shock, turning away to answer. "Zenia, what's wrong?"
"Queenie, I just found out! Our editor-in-chief making me fly back overnight? There was absolutely nothing wrong at the branch. I pushed him on it, and he finally admitted it was a direct order from the CEO of Evermore Group. How disgusting is Zander?! Just because I told you not to date him years ago, he's held a grudge against me this whole time. He must have seen my post about being back in the country yesterday and pulled this dirty trick to keep us from seeing each other. It's so sick. I already blocked him..."
Queenie couldn't process a single word Zenia said after that. It felt like a knife was repeatedly plunging into her chest.
Sending Zenia away...
Forcing her into a trap...
