The Fragrance Queen's Final Note novel Chapter 42

“You're so amazing. I bet your husband is completely obsessed with you.”

“In the face of human nature, love is terrifyingly fragile.” Queenie took another large gulp of her drink, letting out a self-deprecating laugh. “And our biggest misconception about human nature is assuming everyone actually has a conscience.”

Jocelyn didn't quite grasp what she meant and was just about to ask for clarification.

*Ding.* A new notification popped up on her phone.

She swiped it open. It was a text from Miles.

“Jocelyn, why are you hanging out with that woman?”

Jocelyn frowned. “What’s the problem?”

“Could you at least hide Mr. Zimmer from seeing your social media posts?”

“??”

“Don't you know Mr. Zimmer... has a thing for that type!”

Jocelyn glanced at the array of dishes on their table, thoroughly confused as to which appetizer her cousin supposedly had a fetish for.

Jocelyn: “What type?”

“Married women! She's married, do you get it?!”

It finally clicked for Jocelyn. She stole a sneaky glance at the flushed, breathtakingly beautiful woman sitting across from her.

Her fingers flew across the keyboard:

“Miles, stop talking nonsense. Queenie is competing in the Olfactory Chronicles soon. Spreading rumors right now could ruin her reputation.

Besides, even if my cousin did fall for her at first sight, there's no way he'd cross the line knowing she's married. It's not like he hasn't seen a woman before, okay?”

She set her phone down.

Jocelyn muttered under her breath, “Always worrying about absolutely nothing.”

Sitting in the parked car, Miles stared at Jocelyn's reply, his eyes going wide as if he’d just uncovered the conspiracy of the century.

He knew it. He *knew* it.

This woman had an ulterior motive all along!

Stanley Zimmer was currently inside the private club meeting with a client. Once their business concluded, he and the client walked out together.
