Miles instantly began internally spiraling again.
He cursed Jocelyn thousands of times in his head.
But remembering what his boss had just told him, he figured he should trust the man's self-control.
The car pulled up to the entrance of Sophia's Restaurant. Miles unbuckled his seatbelt and was just about to step out when a cool voice drifted from the backseat: "I'll go."
Before Miles could even protest, Stanley had pushed the door open and stepped out.
Striding into the restaurant, Stanley immediately spotted the two women slumped over their table.
He walked straight toward Jocelyn, deliberately keeping his eyes fixed away from the woman opposite her.
Jocelyn's delicate face was flushed as red as a tomato. Her eyes were squeezed shut, looking completely passed out.
"Jocelyn."
Stanley nudged her gently.
"Get up. We're leaving."
"Drink... keep drinking..."
Jocelyn mumbled incoherently into the table.
Seeing that there was zero chance of her standing on her own, Stanley let out a sigh and reluctantly cast a glance across the booth.
What he saw was a completely different picture.
Queenie was also out cold, but her face was ghastly pale.
A fine layer of sweat beaded on her forehead, and her slender brows were knitted tightly together in evident agony.
She looked like she was in excruciating pain.
Frowning, Stanley instinctively reached out toward her, but right before his fingers grazed her skin, reality crashed back into him.
He slowly curled his fingers back and withdrew his hand.
Instead, he hauled Jocelyn up by the arm and dragged her out of the restaurant.
Standing by the car, Miles let out a massive sigh of relief when he saw his boss emerge with only Jocelyn.
He rushed forward to take her weight, hauling her toward the vehicle.
Stanley tried desperately to push Queenie's pale, pained face out of his mind, but his gaze betrayed him, darting back toward the restaurant windows.
Just as he looked, he saw Queenie collapse completely onto the floor.
Waitstaff were rushing toward her in a panic.
His pupils constricted. He instantly spun around and sprinted back inside.
Having just shoved Jocelyn into the backseat, Miles turned around with a bright smile, ready to usher his boss in.
Only to find empty space behind him.
Thoroughly confused, he looked up just in time to see his boss striding out of the restaurant, carrying Queenie bridal-style.
Miles wanted to bang his head against the car.
Great. The boss was acting like a total simp again!
"Mr. Zimmer, what are you doing?! She's a married woman, you can't just carry her around in public like this—"
Miles was practically spinning in anxious circles.
"Get to the hospital, now! She passed out!"
Stanley carefully laid the unconscious woman in the backseat.
Queenie was rushed into the emergency room. After a rapid evaluation, the diagnosis was acute appendicitis.
