The Fragrance Queen's Final Note novel Chapter 47

Zander stood frozen in shock.

And it wasn't just him—Queenie was stunned too.

*How did he know about my surgery?*

Snapping back to reality, Zander whipped his head around. "Queenie, you had surgery?!"

Queenie kept her lips pressed tightly together, refusing to answer.

Zander instantly barked at the driver, "Take the boxes from my wife, now!"

Struggling to suppress the tidal wave of panic and confusion crashing through him, he turned back, plastering on a rigid, forced smile. "Miles, there's absolutely been a huge misunderstanding. I had no idea Queenie had surgery yesterday, and I certainly never received any phone calls about it."

Stanley shot him a look of absolute disdain. "Your daughter answered the phone. Are you telling me a child would just ignore the news that her mother is in the hospital?"

Zander blinked, taken aback for a few seconds before a look of realization washed over his face.

He immediately tried to clear his name. "See? I knew it was a misunderstanding. They definitely called the wrong number. My wife and I don't even have kids yet."

This time, a flicker of genuine confusion crossed Stanley's eyes.

But it was painfully obvious he didn't buy a single word Zander was saying.

His cold gaze drifted over to Queenie. "You don't have kids?"

"No."

Queenie gave a small, quiet nod.

Her long eyelashes cast shadows over her dark eyes, completely masking her emotions from view.

Stanley's sharp eyebrows knitted together slightly. Without another word, he turned on his heel and walked into the building.

Zander seemed to let out a breath of relief, but his expression rapidly twisted into something incredibly complicated.

"Why didn't you say anything at the hospital last night?"

Queenie sneered. "Didn't that assistant just tell you? They called, and your phone was turned off."

"That was—"

"Whether they actually called the wrong number or not, we both know the truth."

Zander's righteous indignation instantly evaporated, his confidence deflating.

"I must have passed out from the alcohol. Romy must have answered the phone. You know how kids are, she didn't understand what was going on."
