The knock came while I was still standing in the bedroom, staring at the closed bathroom door like it might open if I waited long enough.

Loretta had been in there since she woke up on top of me. Since her thigh had brushed the unmistakable evidence of what her body did to mine. I wasn’t sure if she was planning to come out.

Then I heard Giovanni’s voice: “Signore. You have guests.”

Guests? I wasn’t expecting anyone.

I rushed down the stairs, opened the front door and found seven faces staring back at me. Luca. Charlotte. Grayson. Blair. Olivia. Roman and Nico.

I frowned. “What are you doing here?”

“Aren’t you happy to see us?” Olivia asked, already halfway inside. “We were in the area. Well, we came here specifically to check on you.”

Luca shrugged, hands in his pockets. “They wanted to check on you. After the accident. We got volunteered as the escort.”

“We brought food. And questions. Mostly questions.” Blair stepped closer, eyes scanning like she expected to find me bandaged and pale. “You look better than I thought you would.”

“Really?” Luca asked. “I still find he looks like shit but that’s just me.”

Charlotte rolled her eyes, “everyone saw you panic during the crash. Don’t act like you don’t care about your brother. Did you forget you’re also not allowed to race for two weeks because you went against the rules to help Marco?”

I turned to him, “WHAT?”

He didn’t mention that to me.

“Later.” He said with a guilty grin. “We have guests right now.”

Giovanni took coats. Drinks appeared because Roman had apparently decided the visit required them.

Nico dropped onto the nearest chair and immediately looked like he’d always lived there.

Everyone were looking at me like they expected me to fall down or something.

“I’m fine.” I assured them. “My wrist is the only injury.”

“You crashed a car,” Olivia said, taking the glass Roman handed her. “That’s not fine.”

Loretta was still upstairs. I could picture her on the other side of that door, deciding whether she wanted to leave the bathroom at all.

She came down in the middle of the second round of questions. Barefoot. Hair still damp. She stopped on the bottom step when she saw the crowd. Every head turned.

Not everyone knew about her. The wedding had been quiet on purpose. No announcements. No photographs released to the public. No reason for anyone outside the two families that already hated each other to look too closely.

“Who’s this?” Olivia asked. Not unkind. Curious.

I knew they would find out eventually when I started bringing her to races. Denying it now would only make the next few months harder. “My wife.”

Blair choked on her drink. Olivia made a sound that was almost a laugh and almost a cough.

Roman set his glass down very carefully. Luca, who already knew, watched their reactions with the expression of a man enjoying a show he hadn’t paid for.

“You have a wife,” Blair said. “All this time. And you didn’t introduce her. How does someone hide an entire wife? And how exactly hasn’t paparazzi gotten a hold of this information yet?”

“It happened recently,” I said. “After the accident. That’s why not many people know.”

Grayson sighed. “I thought we were your friends.”

Luca put a hand to his chest. “You’re hurt? I’m his brother and I’m just finding out about this.”

Charlotte slapped his arm. “Why are you like this?”

Luca kissed her cheek. “You like me this way-”

“Enough of that,” Roman said, taking a drink. “Or find a room.”

“At least he’s flirting with his woman-” Olivia started. Roman didn’t waste any time. He caught her by the waist and pulled her onto his lap. “You were saying?”

Loretta had not moved from the bottom step. Her eyes found mine. A question. I gave her the smallest nod. Play along. She came the rest of the way down.

“Loretta,” I said. “These are…everyone. Grayson. Blair. Olivia. Roman. Nico.”
