Chapter 184
Grayson
“What?” my parents said in unison.
I didn’t even get the chance to answer as Margot spoke over me.
“He was being disrespectful,” she said dismissively. “So I slapped him hard.”
“You did what?” My mother’s tone was sharper now.
Margot shrugged. “I only did it because he deserved it.”
My mother firmly shook her head. “You’ll never try that again.”

Margot didn’t seem intimidated even in the slightest. “Grayson is my son–in–law and needs to act like it. If he’s going to be disrespectful again, he’ll deserve everything I’ll do to him.”
My mother instantly rose to her feet. “And I won’t just stand by!”
Margot got up just as fast, her chair scraping against the floor. “Oh yeah?”
Heads began to turn as conversations nearby quieted down. Everyone was watching and my father and I exchanged a knowing glance as we were a little embarrassed.
My mother didn’t sit back down even when Margot stood up to her. She actually stepped closer and poked a finger directly into Margot’s chest.
‘You weren’t even invited to this table.”
Margot looked down at the finger with genuine shock. “How dare you poke me?”
‘Why shouldn’t I?” my mother fired back.
Margot lifted her chin. “Do you even remember who I am?”
“Yes,” my mother snapped. “But so what? It doesn’t matter anymore. The days when you walked all over us are gone. You’re not in charge anymore.”
Margot didn’t respond right away as she processed what my mother had just said. Then, she looked around the table, at my father sitting upright and me meeting her glare without blinking. The power shift was undeniable.
With a heavy breath, she picked up her purse. “I don’t even know why I bothered coming here!”
After putting her sunglasses back on, she turned to face the other direction and stormed off.
No one stopped her or apologized and we all planned to keep things that way.
When she disappeared past the doorway, my mother slowly sat back down and exhaled with a grin.
“That felt so good. I always wanted to do that. She’ll think twice next time when she tries that nonsense.”
I smiled with satisfaction, feeling proud that my mother finally had her moment. Everything seemed to be working in our favor, but that was a small victory for me. The biggest victory was going to come when I would successfully break Maddox and Harper apart.

When I got home and walked into the bedroom, Tiffany had turned it into a showroom. There were elegant dresses laid across the bed, each of them costing ten times people’s monthly salaries.
She kept pacing back–and–forth with crossed arms, studying them like she still wasn’t decided.
I didn’t even greet her and she didn’t even look in
my
direction.
I walked straight past her in silence and headed to the dresser, pulling open the bottom drawer, where I kept some documents.
‘Which one looks better?” she asked casually, as if we were still a normal couple having a normal conversation.
didn’t look back as I kept flipping through the folder. “It doesn’t matter to me. I don’t even know why you’re asking me.”
She exhaled sharply. “Because we’ll be on the red carpet together tomorrow at the awards. There will be so many cameras ind we need to look good, like we’re a team.”
paused, thinking about what she had just said. She was right and it was the only reason that I looked back and glanced over it the dresses.
The beige one,” I said. “It matches the suit I’m wearing.”
And with that, I went back to my paperwork.
Behind me, she started to speak again. “I don’t think mom will be able to attend tomorrow. She said she’s not ready to show her face in public.”
Margot’s face flashed in my mind from the restaurant, when she acted like she still ruled the world. I almost told Tiffany that
saw her, but that would just turn into a conversation and I didn’t want to give her any of that. It was for this reason that I aid nothing.
She began hanging the other dresses back up when her phone rang and she immediately abandoned that, walking over to he table to get her phone.
Only a few seconds after picking up, she turned furious.
I told you to find her! There’s no way she disappeared off the face of the Earth!”
didn’t need clarification to figure out that she was talking about Kate.
