Chapter 277
Chapter 277
Grayson
I had gotten used to moving around while wearing a disguise because every time the press or the paparazzi spojted me. I was always bombarded with questions I had gotten tired of hearing. If it wasn’t about the ongoing divorce, it was about the market value of all the shares as they had started to drop.
With my shades and mask on, no one bothered me and I didn’t mind doing that for as long as I needed.
I was just from meeting my lawyer at a café and was now heading towards the exit when I stopped in my tracks at the sound of familiar and sweet laughter from someone who had walked past that café a few seconds earlier.
When I looked over, my heart skipped a beat because Harper was right there. She was in the company of Ella and Zoey, buy she was all I could see as the three of them kept walking further away from me.
We hadn’t spoken since the corporate party four months ago and I couldn’t believe she had been so cold to me. Despite everything I had been going through for several months, she still never checked up on me.
I didn’t want to lose the opportunity to speak to her, so I quickly went after the three of them while trying to keep it subtle.
It wasn’t going to be a good idea to just jump in front of them, so I gave it a few seconds before getting even closer and I spent that time listening to Zoey.
“There’s more than enough room at your mansion, Harper. It doesn’t bother us at all that Tracy and Penelope are currently staying with you. We can still have fun!”
Just as Ella began adding on to what Zoey had just said, I finally cleared my throat and just went for it.
“Hey, Harp.”
The three of them flinched because it was so unexpected.
They all looked back while wondering who it was, but the moment they saw me, they all looked at each other, then back at
“Oh, it’s you,” Harper said casually.
“Yup. It’s me. I’m glad you recognized me despite my disguise.”
“Actually, it was the voice, not your messy disguise,” she clarified.
I was a bit offended by that. “Messy?”
She glanced at her friends with a knowing smile, then back at me. “Did you take a good look at yourself before leaving the house?”
The honest truth was that with everything going on, I barely took care of myself the way I used to. Of course, I showed up whenever I was needed while putting on the nearest suit I could find in my closet. It didn’t even matter to me which watch needed to be paired with the outfit.
I was already embarrassed that she felt that way when she saw me, so I quickly changed the subject.
“Can we talk?”
She shut her eyes with hesitation and that got to me so much that I even regretted asking.
“Uh, yeah, sure.” She then glanced at her friends. “Can you just give me a few minutes?”

“Sure,” Ella said. “Take your time.”
Harper laughed while shaking her head. “You know I can’t do that. We still have so much to do here.”
I clenched my jaw at how she openly made it clear that she didn’t plan to waste a lot of time on me.
When her friends walked away while pointing at some handbags in a luxury store, she sighed heavily while staring at me from head to toe.
“What’s up?” she said with a small smile that didn’t even reach her eyes.
It broke my heart and I frowned, but because my face was covered, she wasn’t able to see it.
“You look good.” My tone was playful.
“Thanks, but I can’t say the same about you.”
Her tone was so flat that it instantly killed my vibe to keep being playful. Still, I kept going because I had her attention.
“I’m so glad I ran into you here. I mean, after all this time, I’m still blocked and can’t call or text you. Hasn’t this been going on for too long? I mean come on. I’m facing so many problems right now. Yes, I have my family, but you’re the missing peace. At times, there’s so much I want to say and you’re the only one who can listen to me but for months now, I haven’t been given the chance. I need to go back to court tomorrow regarding the divorce and that’s what’s killing me the most. It’s ruining everything. Sometimes I wish-”
“I’m sorry, I don’t have a lot of time to spare, but there’s one thing I’ve been wanting to tell you for a long time.”
“What’s that?”
“I know that Tiffany’s a bitch and all, but you really made her transfer those shares to you so you’d keep your mouth shut about everything. That was so low.”
Given everything I was going through at that time, it was very easy to piss me off and she had just done that.
“You don’t have the right to judge me.” My tone hardened a little. “You don’t know what I’ve been through.”
She scoffed. “It doesn’t matter what it is. It’ll never justify your actions. Anyway, my friends and I have to get going now. We still have a lot of shopping to do.”
It took me a few seconds to respond as I processed what she had just said to me. Was basic shopping more important than catching up with me?
“Oh, cool,” I said, glad I had the mask on to hide my disappointment. “How about-”
“Just a second,” she interrupted me while gesturing with her finger because her phone had just rang. She picked up the call immediately while looking around. “Hey, babe. Not at all. I’m not busy. We can talk. What’s up?”
My heart shattered just as it had done several times because of her. She had just told me she needed to go, but there she was, telling Maddox that she had all the time in the world to talk.
Like a desperate idiot, I waited for that call to end. It took at least five minutes for it to sound like they were about to say their goodbyes.
I felt pathetic for waiting, but that was the only way I could talk to her.
Just before hanging up, she blushed as she said, “I love you too.”
