Chapter 214: It’s the Onions
Chapter 214: It’s the Onions
Harper
When most of the work was done, I brushed my hands lightly against my apron while looking at what was left.
“Hmm,” I said with a small nod, my eyes landing on the onions. “I saved the worst for last.”
Maddox glanced over at the onions. “I’ll do it.”
I raised my eyebrows in surprise. “You will?”
He shrugged casually, already reaching for the knife.
My lips curved into a smile as I stepped aside. “Be my guest.”
I walked over to the other side of the kitchen, grabbed a glass and poured myself some water. When it was full, I leaned against the counter to look at him. I took slow sips, watching him in anticipation. I wondered if he could do it.
A few seconds went by and he just stood there, looking at the onion he had picked up.
“So…” he trailed off. “How’s this done again?”
I chuckled, shaking my head as I put down my glass.
I went over to him, showed him how to first peel and once he was certain he’d be able to do the rest, I stepped aside again, getting back to my glass of water so I could watch him from that view.
He bragged as he peeled it perfectly and I let him have his moment. That must’ve been a big deal for him.
“So, about what happened when I went to see my dad“,” he said suddenly, making me pay more attention as his expression turned serious.
“Yeah?”
I was that curious because he was finally going to tell me.
“It turns out Tiffany was called as well. He needed to talk to both of us
I didn’t know where he was going with that, so I just sipped my water.
Pausing with the onion he had just finished peeling, he said, “She’s not my sister.”
I stopped mid sip and coughed, feeling like I had almost choked.
“What?” I lowered the glass as I tried to process what he had just said. Then, I coughed one last time, pressing a hand to my chest. “What do you mean she’s not your sister?”
I finally put the glass down and walked toward him with my heart racing.

“It’s exactly how it sounds,” he said, positioning the onion so he could begin cutting into it. “We don’t share the same father. That’s what he wanted to tell us. It’s been a lie all along. He also recently found out.”
“Well, fuck,” I said. “How did Tiffany take it?”
He didn’t stop cutting even though he wasn’t so precise. It was like he just needed something to focus on. “At first, she thought it was a joke and refused to believe it. But that was until she asked my dad how it was possible.”
I stayed quiet and listened, his expression changing to one with frustration the more he told me what had happened, especially with Margot.
Wanting to read his face carefully with what I was about to ask, I didn’t blink as much, thinking I might miss something if I did.
“And how do you feel about all this?”
He paused just for a second, then exhaled slowly. “I have to admit that this is weird for me! Tiffany’s the most annoying person I’ve ever met and I’ve known her as my sister my entire life. It was always the two of us.” He trailed off to slice through the onion again. “But now, everything is just…”
He trailed off again, his blinking becoming faster and that was when I saw the slight gloss in his eyes. They were real tears and my heart softened instantly.
“Hey,” I said as I stepped closer. “It’s okay.”
He scoffed as he looked to the side. “I’m not crying because of Tiffany.” He gestured
with the knife. “It’s the onions.”
“Oh yeah?” I laughed with amusement. “That’s what we’re going with?“.
“It’s the onions,” he insisted, still not looking at me.
I shook my head with a chuckle. “You’re unbelievable.”
“I’m serious.”
I folded my arms, still not believing him. Just as I was about to say something else, my eyes stung and I blinked and blinked.
“Wait,” I said, holding up a hand. “Yup, it’s actually the onions.” I squinted my eyes. You were right.”
He gave me a look of satisfaction and we both laughed about it, changing the mood to something lighter.
But even with that, I felt the need to wrap my arms around him, so I did and he didn’t say anything about it. But the way he held onto me told me everything I needed to know. He needed that.
I waited for him to express his feelings some more regarding how he felt about Tiffany

not being his sister, but he never did. He didn’t seem to care much, but was that all?
Maddox
When the food was ready, I carried one of the last dishes out to the dining table. It was something I was certain I had never done before, but that night was different. I also didn’t mind having Harper walk ahead of me. It gave the perfect visual as I thought about what would come after that meal.
She got to the table and set down the other dish she had carried while slightly bending over. Her short dress moved further up, exposing more of the back of her thighs. She knew I was watching her and wanted me to see that.
While I would’ve wanted that view to last a little longer, she straightened up quickly, like I’d have to wait to see more some other time.
I placed the dish in my hands on the table and we were both certain that everything
was set.
Quickly, I walked around to her side and pulled out a chair for her. She looked up at me and smiled brightly as she locked eyes with me.
I just stood there, holding the chair while holding her gaze a little longer. Not only was she beautiful, she was also mine.
After she finally took her seat, I leaned forward and placed my lips on her shoulder for a gentle kiss. Her hand came up immediately and gently touched the side of my face. That small gesture made me kiss her a bit harder on her shoulder, making her giggle softly.
It was only because I was starving that I stepped away and took the seat right next to her, instead of across from her. I even pulled the chair closer, not wanting too much distance between us.
With our eyes now on the table, I rubbed my hands together lightly, a small grin forming on my lips. I’d been waiting for that meal from the moment she’d started cooking. The smell alone had been driving me insane. She’d told me to wait until it was all ready and that was so hard, but I did it and there we were.
It was for this reason that I quickly served myself, not even trying to hide my anticipation.
When I tasted her food for the first time, I paused in the middle of chewing while she just watched me with amusement. It was so delicious that I didn’t know what to do. Even after I continued chewing, I wasn’t able to tell her right away, taking my time as I was still trying to process it.
It was only when I swallowed that I said, “Babe, you didn’t warn me it would be this

good.”
“Oh, please.” She rolled her eyes dismissively. “I can’t compare to those world class meals you’re used to.”
He reached for my hand and gently squeezed. “So what if they’re world class meals? I prefer this any time.”
Her face lit up like I had just given her one of the best compliments of her life.
When the meal came to an end, she was about to get up and clean the table, but I stopped her by placing my hand on her thigh and she gasped at my sudden touch.
“This can wait,” I said, moving my hand towards the middle of her thighs which were pressed together. “How about you run me that bath first?”
She subtly bit her lip, like she knew what was coming and when I lifted my hand, she moved in her seat like she was about to get up. I was still looking at her thighs and caught the moment she spread them just enough for me to think I’d see between her thighs. But she played it smart and made sure that what I wanted to see wouldn’t be in my view.
“Are you coming?” she said, strutting out of the dining room while looking back at me.
My gaze moved up her legs. “Just give me a minute.”
When she was out of sight, I licked my bottom lip, already feeling the pressure in my pants. Right at that moment, my phone rang and that messed with the fantasy going on in my head. I wanted it to stop, so I took it out and noticed it was my father. Whatever he wanted to talk about, I wanted it to wait, so I powered off my phone with no hesitation and left it there.
I got up from my seat and adjusted my pants, the bulge only getting bigger as I headed up to the bedroom to join her. I was so impatient to have her because I was about to do something I had never done before.
