Noelle’s thoughts spiraled.
She still could not believe what she was hearing!
Was Benson not her son? How was that possible? Noelle clearly remembered giving birth, but—
She blinked, recalling how, six years ago, she had fainted right after delivering her baby.
Back then, Noelle had chosen to have a painless delivery. The doctors had said her blood pressure had dropped. They said it was a side effect of the epidural.
When she woke up next, Brian told her that their son was being evaluated at the nursery. And because she was still under observation due to an irregular heartbeat, it took three days for her to hold her son.
But Brian had visited her son in the nursery. Her in-laws did too.
‘I don’t understand,’ Noelle muttered in her head. ‘From that point on, I was never away from Benson. How could he not be my son?’
Noelle remembered how Benson had Brian’s eyes, but she felt like her son had never inherited anything from her.
One time, Noelle recalled how Brian’s best friend visited their home when Benson was two years old. Ben was playing in the yard, and Noelle had just brought them coffee.
Brian and his best friend had not noticed that she had returned from the kitchen. Logan Redford had remarked, “Benson is looking more like his mom, don’t you think, Brian?”
"Mmm." Brian simply nodded.
During that time, she had just brushed it off and said, “What are you talking about, Logan? Benson looks more like Brian.”
Logan had just smiled at her, but now Noelle wondered—what if the mother he was referring to was never her? What if it was Gwen?
“She called. You should go,” Brian said.
“Okay, I’ll wait for you in the lobby,” Gwen replied.
Noelle hid behind the curtain, but her eyes followed Gwen’s figure as she left the ER.
Studying Gwen now, Noelle realized the resemblance between her and Benson.
The hair.
Benson had caramel hair like Gwen, and they almost had the same face.
How could she have missed it before?
This was probably the reason Brian had taken Benson on those “business trips” in the past. This was probably also the reason it had been so much easier for Benson to connect with Gwen. They were... flesh and blood?
All those years of raising a young boy, and he was not even her son?
Still, it did not make sense! What about the child she delivered? Although she had passed out after giving birth, Noelle still heard the baby’s cry. She was sure of it!
Noelle even recalled how her OB doctor congratulated her for delivering a healthy boy during her discharge.
If Benson was Gwen’s, then what happened to her son?
How could she forget going to several prenatal checkups and an ultrasound?
Then, what was that about Brian being forced to marry her?
If he hadn’t taken responsibility, Noelle would not have forced him either way!
