Taking Theo Home.
Theo could not understand what he was feeling.
These two beautiful grown-up people were hugging him.
They were both crying.
Their embraces were so warm and full of love that they brought tears to his eyes.
He didn’t even know why he was crying. Theo simply felt like he belonged.
He hugged back because it felt so right.
In front of him, Theo saw the panic in Miss Lorelie’s eyes and that of Miss Paula, but he did not fear them. He felt so safe.
“Mr. Vander—what’s—what’s going on?” Miss Paula asked.
The man and the woman slowly pulled away. That’s when Theo’s heart raced. He was afraid they would leave him, but to his surprise, the woman maintained her hold on him.
“I’ve got you,” the woman said. She smiled at him. “I’m not leaving you.”

Silas was still basking in the moment. Although he and Noelle had yet to do a DNA test, every bone in his body was telling him Theo was his son.
But before he could dwell on it, the directress of the orphanage began asking questions.
Slowly, he got up, fury burning inside him.
“You want to understand what’s going on?” Silas asked. “Why don’t you tell me first how my son ended up in your orphanage?”
Instantly, Paula’s face turned ghostly white. She asked, “What? Your son? Mr. Vander, there must be some mistake!”
“Brian Kingsley!” Silas took a few steps forward. “He is responsible for all this, and you may be involved in it!”
“Kidnapping and conspiracy!” he declared.
Paula gasped. She turned to Lorelie, nearly stumbling back.
Then, in a split second, Paula knelt before Silas. “Sir—Mr. Vander, we had no idea! I swear! Six years ago, Mr. Kingsley brought Theo to our center, saying he was a friend’s abandoned child. He sent a yearly allowance to ensure Theo was well-fed.”
“He said he wasn’t sure if his friend would want the child again, so he requested that Theo not be put up for adoption, and we agreed because he sends us ten thousand dollars a month, which truly goes a long way for a small institution like ours.”
Paula cried, “We never intended to harm Theo.”
“We cared for him,” Paula added before turning to Lorelie.
Noelle was in tears again. “I believe so too.”
Silas put a hand on Theo’s shoulder and said, “But either way, we will take you home.”
Honestly, Silas wasn’t worried.
He had never felt something so certain in his entire life. He was sure Noelle felt it too.
It was already ten in the evening when they were driving back to Rexam. In the car, Theo fell asleep in Noelle’s lap.
Noelle’s tears wouldn’t stop falling. She repeatedly wiped her face while gently brushing Theo’s cheek.
“It’s different,” she said. “The feeling I have… It’s different from the love I had for Benson.”
She shook her head. “I can’t explain it.”
Silas took her hand. “Maybe that’s how it’s supposed to be.”
Noelle stared at him for a while. She looked like she had so many questions to ask, but didn’t dare to.
As for Silas, he was so overwhelmed with everything that had happened that day. He could no longer hold back all the feelings he had kept inside him.
He leaned in and kissed her.
