“I will,” Silas swore. "We both will."
Silas got up to make a few phone calls.
Ricardo Silva already had a sworn testimony, which Silas forwarded to the authorities. The signal was probably not good, so he moved further down the hallway.
Silas left Noelle with Milo watching her from a distance.
Just then, the doctor stepped out of the clinic. Theo followed behind him.
“Miss Rowan, the check-up is done,” the doctor said with a smile. “We will be forwarding the results directly to Officer Muller.”
“Overall, Theo is in good health,” he continued. “His vitals are stable, his growth is appropriate for his age, and there are no signs of malnutrition or ongoing physical harm.”
Noelle smiled at Theo, her hand reaching for him.
“There are, however, two minor findings I’d like to point out,” the doctor said, motioning to Theo. “He has two small scars—one on his left forearm, and another just below his right knee.”
“Are they… serious?” she asked with concern.
The doctor shook his head. “No. Both appear to be healed superficial scars. Based on their pattern and healing, they are consistent with common childhood injuries—falls, minor accidents, that sort of thing.”
“No signs of abuse?” Noelle clarified.
“None that we can determine,” the doctor replied calmly. “There are no indicators of repeated trauma or intentional harm. The scars are isolated and do not raise immediate concern.”
“Psychologically,” the doctor added, “Theo is a bit guarded, which is expected given his background. But he shows good awareness and emotional responsiveness. He told me how happy he has been these past few days with you and Mr. Vander.”
He gave them a small, reassuring smile. “That’s a very good sign. He just needs stability, consistency… and family.”
“Thank you, Doctor,” Noelle said. “I appreciate it.”
After the doctor excused himself, Theo quickly embraced Noelle. He looked up at her and said, “Mom, I’m kinda hungry. Can we buy a cracker or a piece of bread?”
“A cracker and a piece of bread?” Noelle reacted. She crouched slightly and cupped Theo’s face. “How about a sandwich, a burger with fries, pizza, or pasta? There’s an Italian restaurant nearby.”
“Really? Can we eat out and go to a restaurant?” Theo’s eyes lit up. “At the orphanage, we rarely went out, and we always had packed food. We never went to restaurants. I’ve never been to one, actually.”
