The Lies Behind Her Marriage novel Chapter 244

“Could it be that they have finally accepted me?” Gwen thought.

Brian was behind the wheel. He turned to Gwen and answered, “Maybe they have accepted my decision.”

Out of nowhere, he glanced at the backseat. He frowned, asking their son, “Ben, are you alright? You have been silent lately.”

Benson just nodded and said, “I’d like to go to Grandma. Can I stay there longer?”

He hugged his knees like a fragile boy.

“Actually, your grandma and grandpa did ask for you to stay with them for a while. So, you are staying with them longer,” Brian answered.

Gwen saw the relief in Benson’s eyes, and she knew exactly why.

It actually hurt Gwen, but to her, she was just disciplining her child. She knew Benson would eventually understand her ways.

She was different from Noelle.

Noelle was weak. She, on the other hand, knew how to be efficient.

To distract Brian from Ben’s reaction, Gwen smiled at her son. “Did you hear that, Ben? It’s great! You are going to spend time with your grandparents.”

When they arrived at Edward and Margaret’s home, she and Brian brought Benson inside.

The moment they reached the living room, Margaret took Benson upstairs without a word, her gaze distant and cold.

Edward walked up to Brian and said, “Did you agree to give half your assets to Noelle?”

“Of course not, Dad. I’m going to contest it,” Brian said.

Edward shook his head, and in a split second, he slapped Brian’s face.

Gwen was so shocked, she stepped back.

“You are not only a fool, but you are selfish!” Edward barked. “Noelle was your best friend, your confidant, and your wife. She had been with you the longest time. She supported you through everything, and this is how you repay her?”

"Her parents loved you like their own! They entrusted their daughter to you, and you promised to love her!" Edward continued.

“Dad, how could you slap me for Noelle?” Brian asked in horror. He was holding his face as he reasoned, “If I give her half, what would be left for me, Gwen, and Benson?”

“Don’t you think I know that you funded Gwen’s studies abroad?” Edward pointed at him. “That you bought her millions of dollars’ worth of jewelry? And you even bought her a luxurious apartment?”

“You spent more on your mistress than your wife!”

“Noelle has helped your company become what it is today. It’s only right that she gets half of it!” Edward said.

Brian turned to Gwen, hesitating, but he understood her. He straightened his back and said to his father, “I get it. You are just angry. Let’s sit down and sort this out later. Right up until tomorrow, we have to prepare for the AI trials. It’s our ticket to the AI business summit in France.”

“Dad, I will let this slide,” Brian added. “I will come back the day after. For now, just take care of Ben.”

There was silence between them before Edward sighed. His eyes welled with tears as he revealed, “I’m afraid that day will not come, Brian. With Gwen by your side, you are already set to fall.”

“Until you do right by Noelle, I don’t ever want to see you again—I won’t help you,” Edward warned.

It was baffling to both Gwen and Brian. Edward's words carried another meaning.

Help Brian? With what?

“Noelle and I are not getting back together. It has already gone this far,” Brian responded. “What more do you want me to do?”

“Give her what she deserves,” Edward answered. “Then, we will talk.”

Gwen and Brian left the estate, troubled by how certain Edward had sounded.

The reason would reveal itself on the day of the Local AI trials.

Surrounded by friends, business partners, and the elites within Rexam, Gwen and Brian were humiliated in the worst possible way.
