Gideon looked at her tear-streaked face, a mocking, ice-cold sneer forming on his lips.
"Believe you?"
Gideon's laughter was hoarse and grating, as if from an evil spirit crawling out of hell. "The biggest mistake I ever made in this life was believing you."
Gideon stopped his cold laughter. He looked down at her condescendingly, his gaze turning incredibly hollow as he slowly spoke.
"Ten years ago, in that alley..."
Nora's crying abruptly stopped.
She froze in place, even forgetting to wipe away her tears. Her eyes snapped wide open, looking at Gideon in disbelief.
Ten years ago.
That dark, cramped alleyway.
A few thugs holding knives cornered a sixteen-year-old her in a dead end.
That bleeding teenage boy, carrying a rusty steel pipe, rushed in like a beam of light and blocked all the attacks for her.
Harboring this gratitude and affection that was exclusively hers, she began a persistent pursuit spanning seven years.
To get close to him, she gave up the jewelry design career she loved. To legitimately stay in the Hayes family, she even didn't hesitate to use Silas Hayes's dying wish to sign that loveless marriage agreement.
She always thought Gideon didn't remember that incident at all.
She thought that, sitting high above every day, he had long forgotten the little girl he had casually saved.
She hid this secret in her heart, guarded this favor, and loved him for a full ten years.
But now, he brought up that alley himself.
He remembered.
He had remembered all along.
He clearly remembered the night he stood bleeding in front of her.
Gideon said those words.
Every single word was undeniably clear, devoid of any hesitation.
He personally negated all the past, negated every starting point where they had crossed paths.
Gideon let out a self-deprecating laugh. A laugh filled with regret and agony.
"If I hadn't saved you in that alley..."
Gideon's eyes were rimmed with red, tears once again sliding down his cheeks. He looked at Nora as if looking at a sworn enemy.
"I wouldn't have been entangled by you. I wouldn't have needed to marry you for some favor, some responsibility."
"If I hadn't saved you, you would have already died in those ruins."
"If I didn't save you..."
"Giselle... Giselle wouldn't have been killed by you!"

The readers' comments on the novel: The Love I Begged For Was Never Real
Storyline is good..but author is wasting time on character's thoughts.why r u streching chapters it's really really boring and annoying.conversation between them childish.she is only saying him get out n what right do u have ..not telling him what he did to her not questioning him..demanding answer. And what happened to him why sudden change of heart care to explain author.....
For the past few chapters either she is sick or he is. It is slightly boring. Author pls let them talk about the issues , she is not at all scolding him.. every scoldings are playing in her mind only. We want some talk between them....
I am also thinking the same....
Has he mistaken Nora as Giselle?...
What happened to him🤔 did he forget everything?...
Hey can u also upload the book " woke up married to my cheating ex"....
Does he know the orphan girl is actually Nora?...
So is he trying to justify everything? At wat rite??? Wer were he wen she needed him the most.......
Haha finally going to see redemption...
I don’t think reborn will happen in this novel. It will be full of her blood only. Actually The title should be changed to only Nora’s suffering instead the love I begged was never real....
