Nora bit her lower lip hard, her face draining of color.

"That has nothing to do with you."

She looked away, refusing to meet his eyes. "Please take your people and get out of my shop. Now."

She raised her badly disfigured hands, pressing them flat against the chest of his trench coat, and shoved him backward with all her might.

The shove forced Gideon to stumble back half a step.

Nora pulled her hands away, turned toward the collapsed wooden displays, and crouched down, wordlessly beginning to clean up the catastrophic mess.

A faint noise came from behind the storage room door.

Anya had pressed her ear to the wood, and after making sure there was no more screaming from the gang, she carefully unlocked it and peeked through a crack.

The younger girl stuck half her head out, only to flinch back in terror when she saw the strange men in black suits cleaning the shop.

"Anya, come out. It's okay,"

Nora called out reassuringly.

Only then did Anya hesitantly step out, sliding along the wall until she reached Nora's side.

Staring at the chilling, towering silhouette lingering outside, she gave Nora's shirt a quiet tug.

"Nora."

Anya kept her voice barely above a whisper, fear lacing her words. "Those guys... they aren't coming back, right?"

"They won't."

Nora patted the girl's hand, her eyes locked coldly on the street outside. "Pack up the tools in the back. We're closing early today."

It wasn't until dusk, when the shop finally closed up, that Gideon's figure vanished from the street.

Nora locked the glass doors and dragged her exhausted body through the narrow alleyway back to her rental.

Pulling her key from her pocket, she slid it into the security door and twisted hard.
