The Love I Begged For Was Never Real novel Chapter 476

The wooden door of the storage room slammed shut behind her with a heavy thud.

"Nora, look! Not only did we sell out again today, but they left a huge tip!"

Anya looked up, waving at her with a face full of joy.

Nora walked back to the front desk on somewhat unsteady feet, pressing both hands hard against the cold wooden counter. It took her a long moment to suppress the overwhelming, suffocating wave of anxiety.

"Nora, what's wrong?"

Anya stood awkwardly to the side, still holding the freshly counted, thick stack of bills. "Are you not feeling well? You look terrible..."

"I'm fine."

Nora tried her hardest to keep her voice steady. She glanced up at the empty shelves, totally cleared out once again, and gave a quiet instruction.

"Anya, we're out of flowers for the day, so you can head home early. Tomorrow... don't worry about ordering new stock for now. I'm giving you two days off. Stay home and get some rest."

Although Anya was full of questions, seeing Nora's face as pale as a sheet, she didn't dare pry. She obediently packed her things, said goodbye, and pushed the door open to leave.

The wind chimes let out a crisp, lingering ring, and the shop descended into a dead silence once more.

Nora stood in the center of the empty flower shop, staring at the bare shelves, her eyes devoid of any warmth.

For the next two days, the town was battered by intermittent rain, the damp air seeping through the cracks in the windows.

Nora still opened the doors, trimmed stems, and arranged the blooms every day, letting those "big spenders" come in and wipe the inventory clean.

Gideon, right on time, sat in his usual corner on that wooden chair, his eyes practically glued to her from start to finish.
