The Love I Begged For Was Never Real novel Chapter 509

Gideon took a step forward.

"Nora, I told you, if you want to open a shop, if you want to stay in this town, I will stay with you. I will let you have everything your way. But that doesn't mean just any stray dog can waltz up and touch you."

"You're too soft-hearted. You can't see the real motives people hide inside. I will not allow anyone with ulterior motives to get close to you."

"I'm too soft-hearted?"

Nora took a step back, her chest heaving violently, finally losing her usual composure.

"Gideon, do you think you're the only innocent person in the world? You come here acting like you're so harmless and gentle—who exactly are you putting this show on for?"

"You grovel in front of me, and then you use your power to drive people away behind my back. Do you think that just because you have money and snap your fingers, you can destroy everyone who even speaks to me?!"

"Don't be angry."

Gideon reached out, trying to pull her trembling shoulders into a hug, desperate to soothe her spiraling emotions.

"I'm just afraid someone will deceive you. The world outside is too malicious, and you're too innocent. You can't see their true faces."

"How could I just stand by and watch others plot against you? Believe me, staying by my side is the safest place you could be. I will never let anyone hurt you."

"Don't touch me!"

Nora swung her arms violently, slapping his hands away.

"Outsiders? The only intruder here is you!"

Nora lost all control, her eyes filled with nothing but profound disgust and ice.

"He's an outsider, but what about you? Gideon, what are you to me? What gives you the right to play god and dictate my life? I don't need you to clear people out for me. My biggest misfortune, my biggest problem in this life, from beginning to end, has been you!"

Hearing those absolute, piercing words, a flash of deep hurt crossed Gideon's eyes.

"Get out."

Nora couldn't bear to endure another word or another look from this man.

She spun around, marched to the corner of the shop, and gathered all the things Gideon had brought over the past few days—his water cup, his coat, his documents, and the expensive gifts he had specially ordered—bunching them all into her arms.

"Nora..."

Gideon's expression shifted slightly as he tried to step in front of her.
