Gideon picked up the bowl of soup and, without a moment's hesitation, dumped the expensive ingredients—along with the porcelain bowl—straight into the trash.
He strode back to the dining table and pulled out the chair next to Nora, sitting down.
"Nora, tell me, what do you actually like to eat? I'll go make it right now."
Nora leaned back in her chair and didn't answer.
Seeing her silence, Gideon didn't back down. Instead, he pulled a black pen and a small notepad from his jacket pocket, flipping to a blank page.
"Tell me. I'll write it all down."
"Spicy? Sour?"
He started interrogating her on flavors one by one. "Hunan cuisine? Sichuan cuisine?"
He leaned forward slightly, closing the distance between them, continuing his relentless persistence.
"Just name a few, anything works. As long as it's something you normally love eating, whatever it is, just say the word and I'll prepare it."
Nora looked at the man before her—the same man whose mere word used to dictate entire boardrooms—now clutching a pen and hovering over her like a desperate puppy. A bone-deep exhaustion washed through her veins; she couldn't even muster the energy to mock him anymore.
The wounds she suffered from loving him, the humiliation she swallowed to cater to him—they were already carved into her bones and blood, an indelible part of her life.
Time couldn't be reversed, and damage couldn't be undone.
Everything he was doing now to make amends felt so unbelievably pale and pathetic in the face of this utterly devastated ending.
But she knew that if she didn't give him a clear answer today, this madman would sit here asking her forever. He might even drag every restaurant menu in town right to her face.
"Poached sliced beef in chili oil."
Nora's dry lips parted slightly as she offered up a dish.
"Spicy and sour shredded potatoes."
She paused, then added one of the most common, everyday dishes.
These were the two dishes she had loved the most before she married Gideon.
Spicy, intensely flavorful—completely at odds with the bland, tasteless diets of The Hayes Manor.

The readers' comments on the novel: The Love I Begged For Was Never Real
Storyline is good..but author is wasting time on character's thoughts.why r u streching chapters it's really really boring and annoying.conversation between them childish.she is only saying him get out n what right do u have ..not telling him what he did to her not questioning him..demanding answer. And what happened to him why sudden change of heart care to explain author.....
For the past few chapters either she is sick or he is. It is slightly boring. Author pls let them talk about the issues , she is not at all scolding him.. every scoldings are playing in her mind only. We want some talk between them....
I am also thinking the same....
Has he mistaken Nora as Giselle?...
What happened to him🤔 did he forget everything?...
Hey can u also upload the book " woke up married to my cheating ex"....
Does he know the orphan girl is actually Nora?...
So is he trying to justify everything? At wat rite??? Wer were he wen she needed him the most.......
Haha finally going to see redemption...
I don’t think reborn will happen in this novel. It will be full of her blood only. Actually The title should be changed to only Nora’s suffering instead the love I begged was never real....
