The Love I Begged For Was Never Real novel Chapter 84

As those words fell, the air in the cabin seemed to be completely sucked out in an instant.

Listening to his words, Nora felt the fragile scab that had just formed over her heart be ruthlessly ripped away by this man. The suffocating pain of fresh wounds spread rapidly along her nerve endings to every corner of her body.

Why.

Nora asked silently in her mind.

In his subconscious, as long as she and Giselle appeared in the same place, it had to be Nora targeting Giselle; it had to be her starting trouble.

She thought back to the past three years. Every time Giselle shed a tear, every time Giselle suffered the slightest grievance, Gideon would blindly pin the blame on her without a second thought. In his eyes, Giselle was a fragile victim who needed protection, while she, Nora, was a jealous aggressor constantly waiting to hurt his sister.

What power did she have to provoke Giselle? In the Hayes family, everyone revolved around Giselle. Even Nora's own biological brother treated Giselle like royalty. Nora didn't even have the confidence to speak loudly in that house, so how could she possibly provoke the high-and-mighty Hayes heiress?

But Gideon didn't care about the facts. He only believed what he saw, or rather, he only believed the logic he had cemented in his mind: Nora was an intruder forcing her way into their lives, so Nora must hold immense hostility toward Giselle.

Silas was gone, and her grief was no less than Giselle's. Yet Gideon couldn't see her sorrow; he only cared about Giselle's emotions.

She didn't want to fight with him right now. Today was Silas's memorial, and she didn't want to make an ugly scene at the respected elder's grave either.

Nora bit down hard on her lower lip, forcefully holding back the warm tears threatening to well up in her eyes.

She refused to cry in front of this man. It would only make him think she was putting on an act to garner sympathy again.

“I understand.”
