Chapter 118
Elena nodded. “Be safe.”
Massimo scoffed as he opened the door and left.
Elena was worried but she focused on her work. She trusted Massimo would fulfill his job–she just worried he might get hurt in the process.
She mixed the materials together. She couldn’t hesitate. She could only act.
All too soon, it was time to release the sleeping gas. Elena carefully snaked her smallest tube through the grate. With a deep breath, she released the valve.
Massimo stalked around the outside of the house, careful not to be seen. He used locks to keep the windows shut tight. Considering the glass was bullet proof, the mafia members inside would stand no chance of breaking the windows open now.
Of course, as Massimo slipped back inside from the main door, he thought of Elena. He was worried that something would go wrong when he wasn’t there, but he knew Elena’s plan would work.
He quickly moved heavy furniture behind the other doors to the dining room. There was no means of escape now.
The sounds from the dining room slowly quieted down. Elena still insisted she and Massimo wait for the sleeping gas to disperse before going inside–it was better to be safe with these kinds of things.
Elena thought she was prepared to see the bloodshed, but she wasn’t. The moment Massimo opened the door, Elena was horrified.
While Massimo’s fight in an old warehouse had been ruthlessly efficient, it was clear the men here had aimed to cause the most harm. It wasn’t about killing each other–it was about making each other suffer. Bloodlust and anger seemed to radiate from the very room itself.
As Massimo inspected the bodies, she couldn’t help but wonder why anyone would do this. How could anyone do this?
But this was the cruel reality of the mafia underworld. Families wouldn’t just kill each other out of revenge or a bid for power–they would do it solely to make another family miserable.
Massimo was impressed by Elena’s strategy. She had managed to prevent a terrible situation from getting even
worse.

But there was no time for praise. As the Mafia King, Massimo needed to looked around the destroyed and bloodied dining room for clues./
figure out what happened. Massimo
Massimo looked through the men’s phones and personal belongings. Pretty soon, he had a good idea of what happened.
The family that lived here had gone through a shakeup–an older cousin had appeared recently, a James Marino. He seemed to be the one who pushed the rest of his family to start making ridiculous deals.
Deals to sell a truly outrageous amount of weapons, if the text messages Massimo found were telling the truth. Not just small pistols, but machine guns and grenades–real weapons of war.
Massimo scoffed. Of course the Marinos hadn’t followed through on any of these deals–there was no way they had these types of weapons on hand.

The potential buyers were still unknown though. Massimo couldn’t find any identifiable symbols on their clothes or any clues in their burner phones.
“Do you recognize anyone?” Massimo asked.
Elena slowly forced herself to look through the horrific scene and at each bloody victim. Slowly, she shook her head.
