Massimo harshly grabbed the shoulder of the person in the large coat, separating them from Elena.

“Are you alright?” Massimo asked.

Elena’s face was pink. “Y–yeah, I’m fine? What are you doing here?”

“Dinner ended,” Massimo said dismissively. “If you’re fine, why do look so nervous? What’s really going on?”

“She’s nervous because you just shoved me to the ground, you jerk!”

Massimo turned around to see his cousin Luna pulling herself up from the lobby floor. She fixed her oversized fur coat. She, like Elena, had completely changed her outfit.

Looking at them both, Massimo could see matching elements. Luna wore a black choker made out of the same looking material as Elena’s boots, the fur of the jacket matched the fur of at the bottom of Elena’s dress, and Luna’s earrings were also leopard print like Elena’s dress. Clearly, there was a story behind everything Massimo wasn’t aware of.

“What happened?” Massimo asked harshly.

Elena took a deep breath to steady herself. “I found Luna and I was trying to cheer her up,” she explained. “And, well, she agreed to going shopping at the mall down the street-”

“And your doctor is the perfect canvas,” Luna finished with a grin. “A cute girl like her deserves cute clothes.”

Massimo frowned. “I’m surprised. Your parents always complained how much you hated shopping.”

Luna looked at Massimo like he was an idiot. “They only ever dragged me with to go grocery shopping or pick out new furniture. I’ve always liked clothes.”

“You have?”

“I literally helped everyone with their outfits all the time. The other boys and girls would always meet in my room before a big meeting. I would fix nearly twenty ties and vests–and don’t get me started on how much makeup and dress coordination I was responsible for.”

Elena watched as Massimo’s eyes slowly lit with recognition.

“You banned checkered ties,” he declared. Luna smiled at his accusation tinged in disbelief. “No one under twenty wore them for six years straight.”

“It would’ve gone on for longer than six years if the yearly meetings had continued,” Luna replied in an impish tone. The more Elena heard about Luna, the more she understood the woman had always caused trouble wherever

she went.

But more importantly, Elena was witnessing Massimo actually getting along with someone! She was so pleased she almost forgave Luna for taking her out of her comfort zone with her outfit choices.

“Your husband is looking for you,” Massimo said, ending the moment of fond reminiscing.

Luna took one last look at Elena. Massimo couldn’t tell what she was trying to convey in her gaze, but the two nodded at each other.

“I suppose I should go talk to him.” Luna said.

To his surprise, Luna reached up to hug Massimo. She placed her hands on his shoulders–Massimo briefly

They were the same age–unlike Beatrice who was a few years older or Rocco who was a few younger–but they never interacted much. Even back when they saw each other yearly, Massimo struggled to recall anything about Luna beyond second–hand stories from Fabio–and those failed to accurately depict the Luna currently in front of him.

“You better make a move on her quickly,” Luna whispered in Massimo’s ear.

“She’s married,” Massimo hissed. He didn’t need Elena to accidentally overhear and get the wrong idea–he promised her he would be nothing but professional, and Massimo intended to keep that promise.

Luna had no such reservations. “That’s hardly an issue for a real man,” she scoffed. “People marry divorced women all the time now.”

Elena wasn’t sure why Massimo looked unsettled after he said good night to his cousin, but he had no objection to returning to their room. That was enough for Elena–between the flight, the beach, and the mall, Elena was exhausted.
