The Mafia King's Unknown Doctor Wife novel Chapter 152

Chapter 152

Elena frowned. Haven’t you divorced Aria?

Massimo huffed, clearly annoyed. I am not married to that woman,he spat out.

Elena was surprised that Massimo clearly dislikedif not hatedAria. She knew they had broken up, but apparently the break up was messy. Elena made a mental note to mention her best friend in her boss’s presence again.

Massimo frowned and started to leave the seating room, leaving Elena and Luca to scramble after him. As they entered the hallway, Massimo huffed again.

Elena shared a look with Luca. It was clear that the meeting had left a bitter taste in Massimo’s mouthhis expression certainly looked like he had bitten into a lemon.

Lucky for Elena, it was Luca’s job to talk to Massimo about upcoming plansnot Elena’s.

So what are you going to do?Luca asked hesitantly.

Whatever I want,Massimo growled. It doesn’t matter what others want. I’m the Mafia King, so my wants are the only ones that matterand right now, I want my subordinates to get to work.

Elena looked briefly at Luca before taking her leavethere were a few medical situations should could look into and that sounded infinitely better than staying by Massimo’s side right now.

As Elena reviewed all the servantsmedical needs, her mind wandered to Massimo. He didn’t usually get so easily provoked. He was actually doing much better these dayshe would even show something akin to a positive emotional range.

But he had been on edge lately. Elena had noticed it before, but now that she was living with Massimo, it was impossible to ignore.

Judging by his reaction, his problems likely were caused by his recent divorce. Now that Elena had some distance from the situation, she could see that it was better for her boss and her best friend to not be miserable. Even if Elena had trouble cutting ties with others like that, she could recognize that Aria and Massimo probably wouldn’t have made a good longterm couple.

But the other mafia families wouldn’t see things that way. Divorce was always a bad lookand for someone as highup as Massimo, the information could quickly lead to a scandal. There was no way he would want the news of his divorce spreading around the mafia world.

Elena felt bad for Massimo. She wanted to help him.

But Massimo and Elena had agreed to keep their personal lives separate from their private lives. Massimo had done such a good job of upholding that promise. Elena didn’t want to wreck things by talking about an obviously sore subject.

So Elena quietly finished up work for the day, careful to give Massimo plenty of space. Her personal phone started buzzing.

What are you up to?her husband texted her.

+25 Borus

Elena smiled as she typed back, Nothing much, just finishing up work. My boss might be in some trouble.

Trouble?he asked.

Elena thought for a moment, trying to find a way to explain her day in a way that would make sense to a normal civilian.

Some shareholders are concerned about his image. He recently got divorced, and I think he’s worried that information would make the hospital look bad by association.

That’s annoying.

Elena snorted. You don’t know the half of it,she responded. I feel badI want to help but I don’t know how.

Don’t,her husband instantly replied, it’s not your job. If he’s a man at all, he’ll figure it out himself.

I know, it’s really not my place,Elena agreed. Oh, by the way, don’t forget about our upcoming meeting!Wouldn’t dream of it,he texted back. What are you doing after work?

Probably will just watch a movie,Elena typed, glancing at the clock. Which I’m actually going to do now since I’m off the clock! Talk to you later.
