“Agree,” Massimo stated. “Anything left to go ost?”

Elena scanned their rough contract.

They had already gotten pretty thorough with the details. Entering each other’s bedrooms was off limits as was sharing beds in hotels if they needed to travel for mafia matters. They had even determined normal working hours for pretending to be the Mafia Queen–which Elena could work outside of, but not unless both Massimo and she agreed to do beforehand.

“All that’s left is what sort of touches are expected and appropriate,” Elena stated.

“People can get rather public with their displays of affection at these things,” Massimo replied. “Everyone gets handsy after a few drinks. And the older men like to display their women.”

“So we won’t be able to get away with zero contact,” Elena summarized. She bit the tip of her pen as she thought.

Suddenly, Massimo’s hand was on top of hers. Elena’s breath caught as Massimo removed the pen from her lips.

With his other hand, he began to trace along her skin–fingers brushing against her fingertips, her inner arm, and then her elbow…

“Is this allowed?” Massimo stated as his hand hovered over her elbow.

Elena swallowed hard. “Y–yes, that should be fine for tonight,” Elena stated. “Just don’t go higher than the elbow.”

“Understood,” Massimo replied. “What about kissing?”

Elena almost choked. “Kissing?” she repeated.

“Yes,” Massimo replied smoothly. “If I can’t touch you higher than your elbow, it’ll be a harder sell that we’re a married couple. So we’ll definitely have to kiss at these sorts of events.”

Elena recalled how handsy mafia men got with their women and the pointed stares she received the last time she attended one of these gatherings. Massimo made a strong point.

“Kissing feels… a little over the line,” Elena protested weakly. “We definitely can’t kiss on the lips.”

“But anywhere else on the face?” Massimo asked.

Elena felt her face heat up. Massimo was leaning his face closer to hers. “Only if it’s quick,” she managed to squeak out.

Massimo pressed a quick kiss to Elena’s cheek. “How was that?” he asked as he pulled away.

“G–good.”

Massimo nodded. “So twenty seconds or under,” Massimo stated.

Elena could only nod in response.

“Should we change the limits for if we’re at an event longer?” Massimo asked as his hand reached for Elena’s

“What do you mean?” Elena replied. She stood completely still, waiting for Massimo to make a move.

Suddenly, the door to the office opened. Massimo’s second–in–command was standing there with their outfits for tonight’s banquet.

“Everything’s ready,” Luca declared.

Massimo frowned as he stepped away from Elena. “Let’s get changed then,” Massimo said with a sigh.

A few hours later, Elena and Massimo stood behind the large doors to one of the estate’s massive ballrooms.

Elena felt a little awkward in her light blue dress. It went down to the knees and had a rather modest top half. In fact, Elena would’ve loved it if it didn’t have a large opening in the back–the entire back half of her torso was left exposed.

Her hairstyle was done up in intricate braids. This allowed her ears and neck to be covered in plenty of expensive jewelry. And of course, the outfit wouldn’t have been complete without some silver heels.

Elena glanced nervously at Massimo. He was wearing a new suit made out of dark blue fabric, though there were flecks of silver in some of the fabric–it made it impossible to ignore him. His tie was a lighter blue with silver swirls along it.

They looked like a matched set.

Massimo turned to look at Elena. “Are you ready?”

Elena took a deep breath and nodded. Massimo signaled to Luca, who was manning the door.

The door to the banquet hall opened. Nearly a hundred pairs of eyes turned to look at Massimo and Elena. “Introducing the Mafia King, the Don of All Dons, Massimo Ferraro and his wife!” Luca called out.
