Chapter 241
Elena appreciated Joshua’s apology. She also understood that they were finally seeing each other’s perspective -Joshua, after all, had agreed to help Elena multiple times, even if it wasn’t exactly to the letter of the law. From finding police footage that she could view to just now arresting a disloyal Ferraro subordinate under a false charge, Joshua had shown he trusted Elena’s judgement.
Yet his words just now suggested otherwise. Was he still really expecting her to change her mind? Or did he know that Elena was already planning on leaving the mafia life by the new year?
Did he really know her that well to guess that truth?
Either way, Elena still had a cover to maintain–that of a newly crowned Mafia Queen. So Elena grinned at Joshua and asked, “What if the mafia life suits me perfectly?”
Joshua didn’t flinch or step away. He smiled right back at Elena.
“I’ll still be right here, ready to help up,” Joshua said. “As long as you’re not doing anything illegal with my help.

The two laughed.
Massimo frowned at Elena and Joshua finished up their conversation. He had already sent all his loyal subordinates away–they didn’t need to see the police conduct their investigation and arrest. So Massimo had waited at the end of the hallway for Elena to stop talking to her old school friend.
He had given them enough space so that he couldn’t hear what was being said. The two had asked for privacy, and Massimo had no grounds to deny them that.
But as they laughed together over some unknown joke and conversation, Massimo really regretted that decision. Luckily, Joshua had to leave not too soon after. Then Elena, too, decided to go to bed. So Massimo was alone once again.
Whatever. Such was the fate of the Don of All Dons, the most powerful man to ever live.
Massimo went back to his office. There was still work to be done. Sure, they had caught one traitor, but Massimo knew there were more hiding in New York.
Massimo looked over the text messages in the traitor’s burner phone. He tried to analyze the writing style of each unknown number in the group chat.
It was extremely likely Elena’s father was one such number. And judging by the man’s texting style and references to another number in the chat, Capo Vitale was either harboring a mistress or his wife was involved. Massimo unfortunately didn’t know Elena’s step–mother well enough to say for certain which was more likely.
That took care of the identity of most of the numbers. Massimo could also assume some numbers were just pure subordinates of the Vitales. Only one or two numbers–excluding Tyler and his mystery woman–talked down to Capo Vitale.
Massimo sighed as he looked over the evidence. It was obvious the Vitales and the traitor he just caught had done much of the legwork, but where had they gotten the money to pull off this scheme? The accelerants for the fire as well as hired thugs for a fake distraction wouldn’t come cheap–especially not if they had also bribed

some police officers to help hide the fire until it got bad, which Massimo strongly suspected Tyler’s group had
But Massimo had a hard time believing Tyler had provided any money for this. The snake had a castle to build. furnish, and fortify—and Tyler wasn’t known to be generous to his subordinates. This money had to have come from another rich mafia family–but who?
“Sir,” Luca greeted as he knocked on the door. “I’ve finished up my report about the traitor, if you’d like it.”
“Email it,” Massimo replied dismissively.
“There’s also something you should know,” Luca continued. “During the party, some subordinates mentioned that there was a new rich man in New York who appeared to be spending a lot of money on his lover.”
